Hard to tell from the pictures, are you using solid solder instead of rosin core? That would make it harder to squish.
I'm not sure. But good chance it's solid. I need to get some different sizes or find some plastiguage.

If you're using the small tube of coiled up electrical solder, it's rosin core. Should be .037 or .039". Can't remember off hand. I roll the flywheel back and forth maybe 10 times til I can't feel it hit the squish band

The plastigauge is relatively pricy stuff. The one I bought crumbles easily. It may be very old.

You can buy .023 solder on Amazon too.

Dan, you gotta sand out that band or make a gasket with some shim material. I have brass shim material I bought off of eBay and would be glad to mail you a piece. Just triple check all of your squish measurements.

I think I have .001-.015 here. I'd just need the max width and length of the piece you'd need, and the thickness you'd like.

A beer can is usually .0035

I bought the yellow from oreilly. It will read down to .010" or real close from their website. It's around .035" thick new. It was about $2 a stick or so when I bought the last bunch.

I think I'm going to try to sand the squish. It will help raise compression a bit. If Mike is right and I'm closer to .010 I've got a bit to take out with sand paper. But that's ok. It's good experience!

I think ideally you would want rosin core because it is softer but that might fine. The diameter is good.

So I used 3m spray glue and 80 grit sandpaper on the aftermarket prison I had.

I just used a pair of pliers to hold and spin it.

It really didn't take that long. Only took 3 or 4 pieces.

Close enough for me. Do I need to sand smoother with lower grit? Or does it matter?
