And a good looker, too!

Thanks, most of these are rusted to death. Maybe it was destiny that I end up with this truck. Dad tried to sell it for quite awhile at a very low price and never got any takers. Of course, dealers would never offer more than chump change for it.

does anyone know where the main grounds are located?
I have to go take a look at one and when running the headlights are lite but very dim with the headlight switch turned off.
that makes me think there is quite a few bad grounds somewhere.
has anyone delt with this before? any ideas of where to start looking?

it's a 1990 1-ton diesel 4x4 with manual trans

I haven't read all the posts- but I'd never buy a Ram/Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth after my dad's then brand new, very gently driven only by him, 1996 Dodge truck went thru new automatic 3spd trannies at 30-40K miles like they were disposable. And it happened to two other people I know on their same era Dodge auto trans equipped trucks.

I knew a guy who had the same vintage Dodge but with a Cummins diesel and Allison? manual trans, and it was a decently reliable truck.

I had a ‘97 that did the same. However, I was a high schooler beating every last inch of life out of that truck, and when I traded it, it had 279k on it.. Dodge got a bad wrap from their underbuilt auto transmissions, but the rest of the truck was always up to the task.

I thought the 3 speeds went out with the old square body series? I would not be too happy to find I had paid new truck price for 1960's state of the art.

'99 5.9 gas had 2 transmission rebuilds under warranty (before 30k miles), including one with a valve body recall update. By 38k it was acting up again. I added parts from a Transgo shift improvement kit, involving a few pressure plate holes being drilled out, some heavier springs and a custom grind on one of the valves. It's been good since.

They tried to make it shift to smooth, and it just needed a bit of firming up on the shifts. Been good since.
