I think the 2 series disease might be infecting me. Fixed this up for a friend. Seems to run better than the other 272 I ran. I think it’s because it has the better flowing hd filter setup. View attachment 120034
Why are 2-series so addictive??? A little over a year ago I was a 3-series or nothing guy...now look at me! Is it the simplicity? Good power? Reliability? Interesting sizes? Personally I like the power, even though they are under powered next to their comparable 3-series. They just have a grunt to them imo. Then there’s the simplicity, 254 is the king of simple in saws that I’ve worked on. Fun fun fun...rant over lol!

I think I might hunt down a 254 for my next project... But that will be down the road a piece. Going to be getting real busy with other things here soon. I should have grabbed the one that sold in the classifieds recently...permission vs forgiveness...permission be damned! Lol!

I like them 2xx serie saws because they have a compact power head compared against them 5xx serie saws. I also like the 346 for the same reason, dont care so so much for the 357 though.
After I bought my first two 242's, my next goal was to get a 262, got one 262xpg from Sweeden + 8 part saws from a local, with a bunch other saws like one minty 372xpg, and well, 5x254's, think I drove home with 23 power heads in my car that evening.
My minty 372xpg miss the same parts before she is complete (2-3years now), but I sure build up a few of them 254/262's!

I'm genuinely surprised Tor that you like the 262 but don't care for the 357. I've only run my 262 just that little bit shown in the vids here on this thread but I do like it alot. That said, I think the 357 packs just as much punch in a slightly smaller package with newer anti-vibe. Not that I'm one to get hung up on anti-vibe methods, just saying you can feel the difference and the 357 is more smooth in the hands. The 2-series has really grown on me in these recent couple of months since I got my first 2-series saw running. But I still have alot of love for my 3-series stuff too. Guess I'm just going to copout and say I like both ;)

You sure do Tor! I guess we were bound to disagree at some point as I am a huge 357 fan. But that’s ok, we all have our preferences ;)

I am w Tor on this one, I like the 262 a little better myself, nothing wrong with a 3 series saw though, still think the 346 or 2153 are great saws
I hear ya bud. I like my 262 a lot but I would NEVER give up my 357. Maybe my preference will change once I mod the 262, but until then....

Norhing wrong with them 357's, Joe & Josh, have one myself ;)
I bought 4x257 powerhead, drove to the lad and it was 357 xpgs, thats how I got my 357 :D
That’s a score!

I wonder if the design problems with the auto decomp, intake clamp and the carb hurt the 357’s potential. I don’t take Saw preferences personally at all, I just find it amazing there isn’t a bigger following for them. Man they are potent stock and fire breathers modded.

I like some things on the 3 series better than the two series and I like some things on the 2 series better than 3 series. Take a look at the clutch on a 272 and the one on a 372. Heavier duty on 272. Inboard or outboard doesn’t matter to me. 272 non hd filter isn’t so great imo, but the hd setup is great. Not a fan of front tensioner on 272, prefer side tensioner on 372. They feel about the same weight/handle similar, but a 272 balances a standard weight 24 a little better than 372. 272 has a torque advantage, but they both cut about as fast as one another (stock vs stock). The 372 oiler seems to put out a little more oil. 272 vibes aren’t as smooth as 372, but are a little smoother than a stihl 044/046 series saw. Both good saws from what I can tell taking them apart.

Lots of good examples of the subtle differences between them. Both good saws with a little bit different personalities.
