After having the 3/4 wrap handle powder coated I had to install some new rubber on it.
I made up a fitting so I could attach shop air to it and lubed up the handle bar with some dish soap. Set the shop air to approximately 40psi and pushed/pulled the new rubber on.
After getting the rubber on I wrapped a couple pieces of tape around the locations I wanted to cut the rubber at. The tape provides a straight edge for cutting the rubber.
Oh and the dish soap was green apple scented. LolView attachment 124197 View attachment 124198 View attachment 124199 View attachment 124200

I wonder if you could use a pipe cutter on the rubber?

Nice work Mike.

Too bad you didn't have a brand spanky new tank to go with it. The old one sure shows its yellow next to the new powder.

I was reading through thinking the same thing and also thinking wished there was a way to maybe restore the color of the old tank. Maybe even die them. IDK right now just thinking out loud.

Kinda cheaten there usin OEM chain adjuster stuff that actually fit right!!! The Asian 660s usually need a shim, etc!

Great work Mike, real detailed and spot on.
Don’t see how that’s cheatin if every piece on the saw is OEM?

I’ve given up any/all hope on AM stuff.
I’ve made my own conclusion that it’s all fvckin junk!
There are few exceptions like meteors and cabers....but the list doesn’t go much further than that

If you are aware of the problem areas and learn how to deal with them, it gets a lot better.

My two Asian Twins (660s) run a good deal stronger than stock 660s, have OEM piston pin bearings and mods to the chain adjusters (or some HL parts). For under $300 ea, they seem pretty darn reliable and strong.

But yes, they are a challenge.

I played with AM stuff some in my early years, but ended up long ago where you are. I tell people that it's not worth their money and not worth my reputation.

I've played harder than most.....even helped with design of some stuff.

Still not sold on any of it. Even if we get a perfect prototype from the Asians, and the next 100 units are flawless, they will find a way to slip in junk. Their QC is non-existent and their amount of give a damn is even lower.
