Very nice work Mike.

Thank you for taking the time to share.

How did you handle the starter rope metal guide flare in the starter cover?

This model’s fuel line install has always given me issues.

Al, with the fuel line, apply some Vaseline to it, and heat it a bit with a heat gun or hair dryer.

Sometimes I need to use needle nose in the tank, or a screw driver above the tan to push in. (But that was when I did it in the garage, in the winter, and did not know any better - did not heat it).

The Green (ethanol) one is much stiffer than the black ones.

Putting the tank vent together. I used a short piece on tygon hose. The 2 grub screws get PUSHED into the hose. View attachment 124058 View attachment 124059 View attachment 124060 View attachment 124061
I'm curious why your using grub screws as well as the umbrella tank vent. It's my understand that it's either one or the other, and only one grub screw when they are used.

I personally will not use grub screws. I lost a new 084 piston because the hose collapsed around the grub screw and caused the saw to go lean in a long cut. The umbrella is a true one way valve so no need for a grub screw at all.

The grub screws are just to keep dirt and critters out of the vent. The old hose that I replaced had 2 grub screws in it so I put them both back in.

My 10 mm 044 came with two grub screws, but the line has long since deteriorated. I have been replacing them with AM ones designed for the 029. Easier to install, cheap, and seem to work well.

Where did you get the parts Mike, and what did they cost?

It's more likely to clog up with the grub screws installed than without, and serve no purpose since you installed the umbrella. I'd just hate to see you hurt it.

The parts were salvaged from the old vent. The tygon hose I've had for a long time. Think I may of got from eBay. No idea what the hose cost.

Brand new walbro HD11 carb. These carbs come new with a heating element. The heating element isn't needed for this build so I simply removed it. It's held on with a metal clip that goes under the screw for the carb wet side cover. The original screw is slightly longer and extends into the carb Venturi. I traded the screw with a shorter screw from another carb. IMG_6328.JPG IMG_6329.JPG IMG_6331.JPG IMG_6332.JPG

Any other carb mods?
No other carb mods. The HD11 is an Arctic carb that originally came on the early 044 Arctics. It has slightly larger jetting then other 044 carbs. IMO it makes a very noticeable improvement in mid range and underload performance.
