The 234se is a pretty rare saw, at least around my area, I've yet to run across one. I believe they were only made that one year.
Really the same saw as a 133se from everything I've read.
I don't think I've seen that particular type of muffler cover/brace before.

So you can now get the oem pto side crank bearings?

This is the first I have ran across anything earlier than a 238, definitely a few things on there I haven't seen before.

It took a couple weeks, but my dealer had no problems getting me bearings and seals for both sides. As you can see above, I stocked up on seals just in case... Lol

No, they didn't, just the odd prefilter setup.

Just went to order another set of bearings. The clutch side is unavailable again, but the seal is still available.

yes, but there is several types of the 020 super bearing, you gotta know what you're buying, special on ebay.
One of them has plastic cage and its inner race is 13.5mm wide, that bearing is a no go.
There is two other PTO bearings, the only one I've seen had a metal cage, the other version has a cage materiale more like bronze colour.

I just tried to get the bearings from a outfit in Quebec but was told they are NLA, going to try my local dealer Tomorrow.

Tor did the part #'s for the stihl bearings change #'s? or do you have any #'s to go by?

Hi Jeff,
I wish I could be precise on the part numbers but I'm not a Stihl guy.
I've bought 4 (metal cages ones) but they're still in the states, far as I could see they had where adverticed with wrong part number, # 9523 003 4430 (who should have a plastic cage materiale and inner race widht 13.5mm)
The 4430 bearing looks like this:

The bearing we're probleby want is # 9523 003 4330 (most of those I see on ebay have a different look on the cage materiale compared against this one)

Now amd then NLA parts get available on eBay, they've popped up more often the last 6 month. Even the PTO bearing has been available, there are still gasket kits floating and seals for both sides.

I've not seen a new crankcase nor have I seen a NOS crank for years.

Your 234 sounds more snappier then my 133 even they use the same top end kit. Did you use 234 or 242 carburetor and did you use 242 flywheel on your build?

I just borrowed the secondary coil from my 242, everything else is as it came. It is very snappy, definitely on par with the 242. I want to get my hands on a 238, dad had said it was even better.

you can be happy with your 234.
The only thing I can think about, your 234 against my 133, the G flywheel is heavy.

Btw, did you shave the flywheel key a tad while you was working with her?

And yes, everyone say the 238 is the one to get!

No, I didn't touch the timing on this one. I suspect your theory is correct, the flywheel on my 242 XPG is definitely heavier than the one on the 234.

There isn't long time since two NOS NLA 242 top end got sold in US, was it last week?
Now and then there are PTO bearings.
At the moment there are gasket kits available on eBay, 04, 03, 02 kit is there, 02 kit is for 238 though.
