It's getting towards that time of year even if it was 97 here in Nebraska today. We've been stockpiling all summer and I'm looking forward to cooler weather and splitting some of the stash for next year. Also have a pretty good supply of year old and dead when cut logs to keep my self entertained over the winter. We are setting up to split inside this year which will be nice on the really cold days. Just need to get a little pipe lined up to run the splitter exhaust outside. The last 2 weeks have been really great brought in about 50,000 lbs of locust which should provide some serious BTU' next year. IMG_3096.JPG IMG_3097.JPG

Retired Oshkosh M977 HEMTT its great for hauling logs. It laughs at 10 ton loads and will still run 60mph grossing 90k. Also has an integrated crane that makes big logs easy.View attachment 88250
That truck looks awesome!
I bet there isn't a tree/log too large to haul with that rig.
Must be challenging to manouver in tight spots though.

Your dog has got a black eye . . .

I'm still waiting for my firewood logs to be delivered, 5 months now.
Not happy! :(

Not a thing wrong with that setup cheap to drive, repair and insure. I started out with just my pickup and the trailer below still have them both and the old truck is getting close to 300k miles. I love having the larger trucks and ability to haul huge loads in one trip. But the bills that come with get a lot bigger too. So far it's been worth the trade but sometimes I miss the simplicity of the pickup and trailer days. It costs more than a pickup load of wood is worth just fill the big truck with fuel. I'm still thankful to have the ability to stock pile all the logs we cut in the summer it sure helps to get through the winter when tree work slows down here. Run what you've got to the best of your ability it'll get you there. If someone would have told me that a part time firewood gig would have turned into the business we have now 3 years ago I'd have probably laughed. I've got respect for anyone out hauling and cutting their own firewood because weather it's with a mini van or a semi truck it still takes hard work and determination.

I hired in this processor this summer for a few weeks great machine on straight wood pain in the butt for twisty lengths, quicker using a circular saw or chainsaw

I split 60+ cord a year with an old horizontal/vertical typical wood splitter and a maul.

Looking at that thing go makes me want one lol

Where's the fun in that thing? :(
It's got a chainsaw, but no noise, exhaust fumes, vibrations, thrill, feel of a great power tool...

I understand using something like that on large amounts of uniform firewood logs, but for now I still like bucking with a chainsaw and splitting with an ax very much - just can't get myself to like stacking.
In all fairness I need only a partial truckload of logs a year, 6 to 8 cubic meter depending how mild or harsh the winter is.

I don’t sell too customers anymore I sell logs cut and split too a log merchant
In the summer , and this year I got behind so I had the chance too do a deal with this machine and I could fire them straight in t(e corn trailer 10 cord at a time delivered and got caught up by the end of August

Now I can cut and split with all my old traditional kit Dolmar and axe all winter and start getting ahead again
