I just caught myself reminiscing How and why I joined Arborist Site then How and when I ended up here on OPE.
AS was for me I needed answers on my Stihl 056 MAGNUM II then a few months later I was introduced to OPE by Definitive Dave. (First I knew Dave was on AS)
I began thinking that it would be a good thread for members to share what drew them join to OPE.
If you wish to ignore the truth you can embellish as much as your imagination is. able. Don't be surprised with comments you get.

Because it seemed less crazier than the other place 🤣

Started AS and OPE around the same time. Although many members were on both forums, you could tell there was a good set of experienced builders over here. Kinda lurked and learned for a good while.

I was just getting started into working on small engines and was looking for more information that I could get at work. Found AS and was there for a few months and then found this forum. I seemed to find more and better answers to what I was looking for here. I know several here are also on AS, but I felt a better vibe here and enjoy learning from others.

I wanted to learn about new saws and how to properly keep them running from the people that use them daily and repair them daily. every question I asked was answered with sound and solid advice, I was only planning on buying 1 new saw and researched it on here, but now I have 5 saws, the bug bit me and now I'm stuck here like an alcoholic at an AA meeting.

I came here because all my buddies got booted from AS

I hate when that happens!

Having CAD and being here on OPE is Kind of like having that AA meeting in a bar. Just saying.

Randy's awesome build threads are what first got me hooked. I was a heavy lurker for 5+ years before I couldn’t sit on my hands anymore and just had to pitch in. I am younger than the majority of you (25 yr.), and I have learned a lot here, but I expect I have more experience than the average (6,000+ invoiced OPE repairs since I was 13). But I still try to learn something new every day, and there is plenty of good information here, although unfortunately a bunch of old talent has left over the past few years. I enjoy dabbling in the porting side, where I still have much to learn.

I joined ope to gain more info on building my first 7900 (second saw) now I have a lot more than any 20 people need. I joined for the information but the people are what keep me coming back. I was floored by the generosity of so many members from doing fundraisers to sharing there porting recipes that they put a ton of time into to spending hours on the phone helping troubleshoot a saw they didn't even put together. The generosity, the knowledge and the people are why I spend my time here.

Well, I did take two off of your hands and that ups me to 23. Going to take the 365 and make it a 372!

I can control myself and stop at any time. 🤣
