I just caught myself reminiscing How and why I joined Arborist Site then How and when I ended up here on OPE.
AS was for me I needed answers on my Stihl 056 MAGNUM II then a few months later I was introduced to OPE by Definitive Dave. (First I knew Dave was on AS)
I began thinking that it would be a good thread for members to share what drew them join to OPE.
If you wish to ignore the truth you can embellish as much as your imagination is. able. Don't be surprised with comments you get.

Well, I did take two off of your hands and that ups me to 23. Going to take the 365 and make it a 372!

I can control myself and stop at any time. 🤣
damn if I had know you had that many, I would have tried to have an intervention for you.

Stumbled across AS while researching/looking for a saw. Bought a ported 272 from Shaun, hooked ever since. Joined OPE as soon as I knew about it. I was away from the forums for quite a while. Needed a saw. Bought a 372 ported by Kevin, hooked again👍

I moved to my house with many trees to cut and firewood became a must. Searched for chainsaw forums and found this one and AS. Joined both and started reading, one home owner saw turned into buying a ported saw. Then the bug bit and now I am another AA member with more saws than I will ever need and on the path to porting them all haha.

Found AS while looking for saw repair information.
Wanted to learn how to do my own repairs because of slow or no
repairs and cost from local shop.
Came over here as soon as I found this site.
I noticed a lot of people had left AS.
Now it’s sad to some missing from here.
Why can’t we all just get along. If you don’t like it don’t read it.

My memory is so bad that I had to go internet spy on myself. I joined AS in 2007, for some reason not here until 2020. I'm pretty sure I found this place while googling technical question. All the wizards has left AS by then.

As far as CAD goes, I can blame my 026 on AS , and all my Huskies on all of youse degenerates.

I joined looking for information on good chainsaws and splitters . This site and Firewood Hoarders Club provide much good & interesting information without people professing to have the "truth" about what is good. Baiting some characters on AS can be entertaining when I'm bored.

I’ve liked saws since I got a poulan 2300 with a bb chain on it when I was 5 or so, always have liked engines in general but for some reason really like work on and with chainsaws. Every one of my friends and coworkers think I’m nuts but they come and ask for help quite offen. I searched over as and here along with firewood hoarders club this one and fhc seemed to be the more mellow and informative ones at the time. Plenty has changed here and a lot of the older guys have left or show up way less frequently. Lots of people here to help others and that’s what I try to do even though I have my moments of grumpy old guy and know that. I do miss some of the older members that took jokes well and gave them out knowing it was all in fun.

to catch a predator
also initially to learn more about selecting, repairing saws. Place gave me the porting bug real bad. A better saw fits the budget better than another saw. In all my tinkering, saw porting is by far the most rewarding.
and to torment charlattans.

I purchased my first pro saw in 2019 (572xp) because I had just moved back to Wisconsin and my parent's needed some help with their forest. That was a huge step up from the 455 rancher I had purchased in 2006. It wasn't until I ended up running a ported 372 (still not sure who ported it) that I realized I needed a ported saw. That search led me here. Because I love to learn, I ended up getting porting tools and made tooling for my lathe to do machine work. I still enjoy building a saw, but with 8 children now, I can't hardly get time in the shop.

I guess you’re trying to reverse the declining birth rate single-handedly!

What is it about chainsaws that is so addicting?
I like to know how things work, the Air Force taught me electronic maintenance on airfield weather and navigational equipment. I learned troubleshooting all the way down to component level repair (resistors, transistors, diodes...etc, even tube amplifiers). It fascinated me to see how the circuitry all worked together. Engines had been a mystery to me, but chainsaws were simple, one piston, one cylinder, one carburetor...and the addition of fuel and oil.

Plus I can pick it up and carry it around and work on it in my heated basement shop. Parts are generally cheaper than on cars too :D

It doesn't hurt to hear them bark to life when you find them dead!

I learned every single thing I know about chainsaws from the folks on here. I’ve tried to thank you all along the way but if I’ve left someone out please know I thank you very much, I’ll be happy to pay it forward.
