Does anyone have any idea who manufactured the Hitachi gas powered demo saws? I wonder if it's like Hilti demo saws where they decided to design and build their own engines. Which resulted in next to no aftermarket support and a top end from Hilti costing hundreds of dollars. I'm not a husky fan and stihls demo saw selection is pretty thin to say the least. The Hitachi almost has an echo look to it though.

For that kind of a tool I would want something with good parts availability. My understanding is that Hitachi took a cue from Makita and threw all their gas powered stuff overboard a few years ago. I wouldn't count on getting any help from them on it.

Did Tanaka have something to do with Hitachi at some point? Some reason that thought's vaguely in the back of my head.

Hitachi bought out Tanaka and promptly whittled them down to nothing like Makita did to Dolmar. They replaced the Japan made Tanaka line with Chicom stuff and co-branded it with Hitachi. Then after a few years of the massive success they envisioned not happening, threw all the gas powered OPE and the Tanaka name over board.

My buddy had a hitachi top handle saw he got cheap when he got into doing removals probably 6-7 years back. It was a heavy underpowered pos that was impossible to get parts for.

You needing a demo saw? Far as Stihl gos not sure why you think they don’t have much to offer, they make 7 different gas powered ts saws. 4 have intellicarb and the other 3 are injected the new 710i and 910i look pretty awesome except the price. 910 is 102cc and 8.3 hp. Also from what I was able to find hitachi made them all in house and quit in 2019 to shift solely to battery power. Reviews on them were less than stellar on some of the concrete/masonry groups.

Yeah, at this point buying the Hitachi is about as smart as buying a Daewoo car.
