76.5 is closer to 80 than 70. the models are close in weight and dimensionally so I myself compare them but something doesn't seem fair comparing a 70.7 cc 372 to a 79cc 7900/7910
From what I hear talking stock if anything under 80cc counts cutting speed/power wise the 7900 is king, in second place the oe 372 and after a certain bar length the 461 will probably outcut the oe 372
taking into account weight, smoothness, air filtration system, power, and cost I went with a 372 and would again if I had to keep it stock
woods ported a solo 665 with 7910 is what Id pick ;)

there all great I would run any one of them! matter afact the right deal and right time I would buy any one of them without hesitating. yes comparing is splitting hairs. chain, operator, and tune will likely effect results more than the saws themselves still that is my opinion how they would shake out and my personal picks

Scanned through all 7 pages just to see if someone mentioned the awesome 70e. I've got one set up with trimmed bar plates and clutch cover for noodling and the torque impresses me every time.

I have not ran enough 70cc saw to give a good opinion. Soon if people would send me some 70cc saws I will use them and give you an informed decision. Lol. Blindly I would get a Dolmar 7900 just because every Dolmar I have ran has great AV

I have 3 044/440s and 3 046/460s and I consider them to be in different classes. When ported, the 046/460 will be noticeably stronger, but is also noticeably heavier.

I consider the ported 046/460 to be an excellent bucking saw, suitable for all by the largest of tasks, and the 044/440s as all around saws, that can be used for limbing or bucking. My ported 044 wears a 28" light bar and is my favorite light wt felling saw. If I'm in an awkward position or have to cut a tree high because the bottom is rotted, etc, this saw is much easier to maneuver than it's larger brethren and makes getting the angles correct a lot easier. I also like the 661 R spikes it wears (for both looks & function).

When fully fueled, the wt of the 046/460 powerhead is almost a full pound heavier, and that does make a noticeable difference. When bucking the difference is immaterial, and the increased cutting speed is appreciated.

IMO, both these saws do very well in their respective size/weight.

372 hands down.

With a Muff mod, they are literally a scaled up 346 in handling.
They make the 440 seem clumsy, and heavy in comparison.

For a while, we were spoiled with the 372 and 440.
The new gen X-torque saws, just lost something, Possibly that whole "Sideways balance" thing Troll goes on about...dunno, and the 441 just lost everything that made the 440 a great saw IMO.

Maybe the next generation will get back to lighter, snottier, better handling 70cc saws.

As of right now my MMWS 460 is the only running 70cc class I have. So, it is my favorite cause it starts with no trouble, does not know that it is in wood with a properly filed chain, ensures that my fuel can is fresh (the mpg is pretty low LOL), scares the bears away, and makes people that have never cut with me just look dumbfounded that chips can fly that far and that I can cut 100 cords a day (jk). Also, makes noodling fun. I`ve only ran a 24” b/c but want to try a 20”. Too cheap to buy a longer bar as I don`t often need one and I can cut on both sides of a tree if needed.

My other 70cc class saw is a 372 xtorq that I took the p/c off and put a new non x-torq p/c on but could not get it running right. When I made a few cuts with it I REALLY liked it. I`ll report back once I get it back from jmssaws.

IMO, I think the 460 is best suited with a 24-28" bar, and would put the 20" on the 372, perfect for it, and ported those saws are very fast. However, that MMWS 460 will have no trouble pulling a 36" bar through hardwood if you ever have the need. I love my ported 046/460s for bucking wood with 24" bars.

Best of luck with them both, a nice combo (except that bars are not interchangeable)!
