I'll have her off shortly here. Just been poking around with the 420/4300 I got from Andrew, and a 288xp I need to make sure is broke in before I drop it off.

It’s amzin to find things on interweby pages that are based on agenda or one single experience, rather than non biased testing

This is about how big they tend to be stock:

This is where mine ended up. Basically as open as I could manage without worrying bout it burning anything.

I’ve added a bulletin, which is about changes made and the serial # it was implemented on, I found it on AS.. its really here just for reference and easily located.

As for exhausts and outlet size, I’ve read what @Brewz has found what works for him. I’ve also read what others say. My 461 has a chi Dp jungle muff (no baffle) as much as I’m a fan of it, others say it’s a bit to noisy :risas3:
Having said this, I’ve got one coming.:zpong:
What I intend to do is try mix and match the oem front with the jungle back. Also the other way round. So I’m keeping my eyes open as to what works best, and if the jungle muff is a winner, it will stay on.;)

I also want to test the HD air filter theory as well. But I’ve got to order a few more parts so it’s not going to happen very soon.

Anyways I’ve got some stuff to do this morning, and typing stuff here while drinking coffee is cool.. my coffee gets cold and work don’t get done.

You need to do a before and after set of cuts in a big stick to see if there's any difference between the two types in air filter on a modified saw.

Here's what an MS361 does with a 'standard air filter' similar to the 044 non HD. This is at about 2200 feet altitude as well. I think this is one of Scott's saws if I recall:

Where I usually do my saw work, at the foot of the Cameraghs and the banks of the Suir river, the air is mostly cool and dense. I usually see nice high compression numbers on the saws, and they usually work rather well.

Chad used to have a dyno thread on AS. Prolly still there. Showed the HD filter flowed rather well. As it should, filters half the size are used on 250cc dirt bikes for 60hp.
As you said, it's many factors. What really got my attention was when Chad added a DP muffler cover and found an extra 20% more hp from a 460 on the dyno.

Well, I’ve been enlarging the intake and exhaust & a bit of the trans, just a little. I could do more later bit can’t put it back if I taketo much.. However it’s time to put it back together. I’ve gotta see how it runs.. it’s never been run by me yet:(..

I’m still waiting on some seals and the dp exhaust. Should be here soon, so while I wait...and wait. I thought I’d start to get it together.
After all it will be a working progress saw. ;)
I want to fuel it with a few tanks then check it over and maybe Hogg out a bit more of the int & exh.

So this problem I found,,, this arctic wiring is dam old.. I forgets where the wire was routed etc. But how ever I gets this problem..insulting on wire breaking.. see 2 pic.
When I look at the ipl. All I get is connectors and no wire.. what is the wire they use ? Nichrome or just soming else.. what do I do to get round this ;) Shrink wrap or ??.

Cheers:borra2:

You trying to remove weight from the piston?
Yes, just a bit, and a blending/smoothing for better flow
I’ve been reading around, the consensus is the meteor is heavier than the oem due to it being the same piston as the 12mm. It’s just that they drill out more material for the 12mm wristpin.

Did you weight your original piston?

Yes, it’s some where in the first few pages. I have a look,, I weighed them with the rings as the oem was stuck and couldn’t be arsed to remove it. I guess I should have weighed the meteor rings separately.. and the oem rings were well worn out

The stihl 74g but remember it was well worn (skirt thinner on one side & part of the thinner skirt was consumed by the engine) so I guess when new 76\77g with rings
Meteor was 83g now 81g

Wrist pin, oem 12g, meteor 13g.
