Ahh thanks for the link... I had read that while heatiny my cases... then it got lost/mixed up with all the other stuffs...
Two things I’ve got from these vids ( 12mm bottom end and a 440 top end, (not the same as mine)) and the 3x 10mm 044..(same as mine) both say ditch the old carb and go hd 15 with hd air defilther. I got an Am carb, and hd air defilther on the way. sorry I’m cheap:cool:

Scott says about case size old 10mm and 12mm are different.. others have said when they fit 12mm crank in a 10mm case, some need more taking out. Well I measured the clearance in my 10mm crank and case, it was 30thou... I was surprised.

Randy don’t say what he took of the key :(
And the numbers are 78 on intake and other stuffs (see pic).... anymore intake and it’s glugging fuel.. well I thought it was already @72*\74*

I guess I got a little work to do:rolleyes: In the new yr.and . hopefully after mr TM works on those 3x044s :D
Either way, I agree, mine is coming along nicely...

I would leave you're intake timing as it is but that's just me you'll be really surprised one's you put the HD air filter setup on it and go to a better carb it should be pretty darn strong after you do that plus it's not bad as it is right now so that's my two cents.

So I did some cutting with the 20” bar and chain I got from Danin the thanksgiving thread.
The chain was brandynew. I know that peeps say it’s not that sharp outta the box, so I sharpened with 2 strokes on each of the teeth, and the rakers got the stihl progressive file o plate, the pics are in that thread.
The wood was London plane

Yes I think the oiler is A bit poor.. although I can see the oil between the chain links if I give it a few blips on the throttle.
With a 25” bar it would be less oil as there is more chain, I did try it and noticed it.

I think I need to take it apart and mod it for more flow.. it’s set to max and I’m getting prob 1.5 or just about 2 tanks of gas to 1 of oil. So I’m guessing it’s not the sucking of fuel.. even thou it seems to use fuel quickly.
I did put a new oil tank vent in, so it’s not fighting a blocked vent. The old 1 got powder coated. there was no bringing that back to life.

there’s a few things in the lists of stuff to look at, when the air filter & stuff comes

At the mo, The carb is still a bit rich on the low and maybe the high. But I’m not that bothered as i'm fitting a new carb with the HD air stuff.

The AV needs looking at,, it’s a bit vibey on the rear handle , but that could be wrong screw length on the upper AV or just old AV's. I’m not using it a lot. So it not a real bother..

I only asked about the oil as I run a chit ton of these 044`s and I could see steam escaping from the far side of the cut in your vid. I would almost bet the bar and chain are getting a bit hot but not likely enough to do damage. The bars on my saws would have oil drool down the sides coming out of the top rail channel, I have them setup to run one tank oil to one of fuel and my chains and bars last a very long time, both Stihl product.

Yeh, i agree... it may also be a bit of the wood and the weather/temp here.. it’s been wet/raining & temps are 7-10 C

Thanks for the reassurance, of we’re thinking along the same lines.

I'm always on the lookout of how much bar oil to fuel I use. And if it less than expected, then a light bulb lights up... why..?..?
There’s nothing like wasting a big bar on poor/less bar oil delivery

From what I understand. Oil On full, should use about 3/4 of a tank to a tank of fuel.. unless you got the HO oiler.

You can swap to rapeseed oil in the mean time. It seems to flow more than the tacky bar oil and oil better in the cold months.
I've used it since 2012 or so with good results on ported 372's, 044's, 288's and such in firewood duty year round.
Steam isn't a great indicator of bar oil. When it gets cool here, you see everything make steam. It's just so humid on the isles.

I normally just add a dash of Diesel To my oil..

I’ve used sunflower and rapeseed, but I have found if I'm not careful it goes gummy.. over time.

Don’t get me wrong if I were to work near water ie stream etc. And it call for bio oil.. I’d use veg oil.. it’s just that congealed veg oil is apita if you have it in a tank for some time.. it ends up blocking the filter..and other stuffs

Rapeseed won't oxidize as quickly as bio oil will. If you rarely use a saw tho, it may be a problem then.

3/4 of a tank isn`t bad but I like a tad more, some grinding on the oil pump bits allow for better oil delivery. Likely not totally necessary but a bit more oil on my saws allows the paint on the bars to last a good deal longer, the bar rails stay burr free and need less squaring up.

I thought it was about time I added to this thread. The news is.
I got the plastics for the HD filter.. and dyed them black..
I added and tried to tune the AM carb... Thats where it got to, i followed the other AM carb thread..that @M G porting started.
I went back to the original carb because I needed to finish it and get some time on the saw..not keep faffing over a carb.. maybe another day thou..

so I got two vids uploading from today. The wood is sycamore, which I felled a month ago.. today was just tidying up..
The bar is Oregon 18” with a almost new stihl full chisel chain, I used the stihl progressive raker gauge on the rakers.

in the first vid the tune is a little richer than the second vid.. I

Next on the list is to find some bigger wood ;) and I probably will tune it back to slightly richer..

Well done!

something is up with you tube.... it’s not letting me play my last 2 vids I posted up....

but cheers for the thumbs up.

edit,,,fuggers@youtube I’ve had to ask them to review my new account. It just maybe they have linked it to my old account and blocked it... I guess I will see when they reply.

Closing accounts of chainsaw video`s seem to be a re occurring theme with You Tube recently.
