It's not always things work out good.
Ordered new bearings&seal for him (most would just swapped seals, but them 550's are prune for bearing failures):

Even the piston looks great from the exhaust side....

It had limit time left (if I had seen it I would simply tossed the saw in the bin):

Is that a hole in the piston skirt, second picture?!
If so, how does that happen?

that is a good question Wilhelm, its not a hole through the piston but a chunk came off and there is a 6mm crack.
My theory is that them Husqvarna clowns damage the piston when they mounted the piston or before they mounted the jug. But I'm defently not sure, will ask the owner about the history to his saw.

At least I know where to get carcasses if I ever happen to own a Husqvarna! :p

Damage like that shouldn't happen, thanks for Your reply.

Tor what filters come on them stock over there?
The last 2 that dad bought came with the black ones. My J-Red also had a black one.
I looked the other day at the dealer and seen the new ones are coming with the Orange ones now.
We've been running the felt in the summer and the black in the winter.
I might have to pick a few of the orange ones and try them.

they comes with orange filter nowadays Brian, 25uM filter it is. Think they introduced the orange filter in 2016 week 43, I've seen them on brand new 550 xpgs here.
You have a good plan with orange filter in the summer and black filter in the winter Brian.

I'm not really impressed with the felt ones. But they are better than the black in the summer for sure.
The few that I have been into all had a lot of wear on the intake side of the Piston. I think they suck in a lot of fines with the black ones in the summer.

thats my opinion about them black filters also, I think it was the main reason why Husky started to deliver a 550xpg with the yellow 44um filter back in 2014 as a standard, and they went even finer with the orange filter in 2016, and I've seen them new 550's comes with the orange filter nowadays.

Yes they are prune tor.
hehe, I guess I used a wrong word :D

@Moparmyway , looking at that squish I knew it had to be a 394. I think mine came in at .052
The Meteor piston gives a longer intake duration than the oem piston. I’m debating on grabbing an oem piston for this saw, but I wanna wait to run it first, so I can be sure. I like keeping the 394/395 intake around 78-79.

@longleaf ;
Please remind me what’s going to be your longest bar, what size chain on that bar (375 or 404), and what gear ?
