We don't delete accounts.

Work it out.
I just wanted to let you guys know so you don't think I'm a complete ass hat, I talked with @mels and we're good on both of our accounts.

Now for the reason I joined in the first place ( knowledge ) why did that piston get all f-ed up? I had ran in the 3-4 tank range through that saw before selling it.
So what happened that caused it to fail suddenly?

Air leak...I am glad you guys are not coming unglued here. I like my old school saws, but old is the key word.

BTW to use that outer dog, you have to use an inner from an 039. Not something I have laying around, but I got one from ebay for a few bucks. I think I will like this kind better:

Was it an OEM or AM jug and piston?
Could have been one of many issues that caused that.

Can those work on a 046/460? Is there a pair of small dual dogs that can work other than west coast large ones?

I am firmly in the small dog camp too. My answer to your question would only be a guess. I snagged that photo, and really need to see if they will line up on my oh series saws.

I think the pictured dogs are for 362?

Darn. :( I can live with the one small dog I guess. Better than getting annoyed from it hanging up all the time in felling cuts with the big dogs. Too much leverage for hardwood work imho. I like the small dogs for certain tasks and large dogs for others... depending on what I’m doing.

The use of AM seals/gaskets/parts could have been a leading contributor to what happened to the AM piston. Tune could have played a role as well as fuel/oil quality.
Debris does look like it might have been ingested in the intake side, and the exhaust looks like it got a little warm

Bottom line: AM parts, intake quality (tune, fuel, oil, air filter, etc ..), and cleanliness all could have had a role here, or maybe just one of them.............

Your post tells of working it out with the owner, thats what needs to happen because here, at OPE, we stand behind our work, we make the wrongs right, and we try to keep everything on the up and up so shady deals, liars, cheats, and misunderstandings are kept at bay.

1. @drf256 didnt mention anyone or call out anyone
2. You fessed up to the sale quickly
3. You feel confident that you have worked it out with the owner

All great signs towards making this right !

IMHO, @mels needs to post up so this can be put to rest

I generally prefer smaller spikes EXCEPT on felling saws (bottom of trees often not uniform) and on my larger saws. The 90+ cc saws will pull into the log so hard that the larger spike will help protect the saw. Plus, the chain catch on the large double dogs is better for noodling, and far more durable, a big advantage.

I think the best sized hardwood dogs are the stock 660/661/395, muffler gets protected ok and not too aggressive hook on the bottom spike. It’s a subjective question though, I say people should run what works for them.

I know it's not about Dolmar spikes, but still, left to right
DSC03551.JPG

The small European style is a little too short and they lack height to protect the muffler when processing large logs.
The tooth spacing is good.

The US style 1 spikes are nice, but the tooth spacing is too far apart.
These are great for stumping IMHO, very good for bucking, they protect the muffler perfectly fine.

The US style 2 spikes are mostly overkill for my usage. I do like the longer lower spike when my PS-7900 wears her secondary 36" B&C setup as the spike doubles as a kickstand. The tooth spacing is nice. I also like the strong massive design of these.

It's not always things work out good.
Ordered new bearings&seal for him (most would just swapped seals, but them 550's are prune for bearing failures):

Even the piston looks great from the exhaust side....

It had limit time left (if I had seen it I would simply tossed the saw in the bin):
