The lower the metering lever is set, the less time it will hold the valve open for per pulse which feeds fuel to the carbs wet end.
The low lever will have been starving the saw for fuel.
Get on Ebay and track down a MS460 carb. The walbro copy's from china are about $10. They have removable jets that can be plugged or drilled to adjust high side fuel flow.

You can see in the image below, they have a small L side hole (bottom left), a fixed H side jet (Middle Left) and a replaceable H side jet (Top Left) that can be adjusted bigger or smaller to fine tune the H side fuel delivery.

On the bench at my place is the 066 red light I bought a couple months back.
I have not used it in timber yet, but it runs good.
The red light still works so I plan to swap out the red light coil for an unlimited coil to keep it safe. It is far to precious to risk breaking cutting fire wood.

It needs a birthday, so I shall give it one and bring it back to life again!

So the red light was limited? Other than that feature what else was different on it?

Is that stock handlebar tubing?
Nope....lol. It's actually heat hose. I made the full wrap and needed new wrapping for it. I like thicker handles so I figured I try it. I can always change it later if it sucks.

Shorter case, no decomp, and the little red light flashed when you were at max revs to help tune the saw.
They only made them for a year or 2 and there are not many working examples left 20 years on.
The jugs are supposed to have red hot timing as well.

others may be able to elaborate further..... I am a mere novice who has fallen in love with all th(i)ngs oh six six and is learning all the time

Is the whole saw that clean or is the tank replaced?

Some asked me on PM what soldier I use.
PlastiGauge is the only soldier I trust in when the squish is very tight, and it's very fast to use, unfortantly pricey.
PL-C (green one) goes from 0,007-0,020" and is the one I use.
I also have used PL-D (brown) 0,020-0,040", but checking squish with PlastiGauge over 0,020" is waste of money.
