Not sure how to call this MS170. Piston looks pretty bad. Opened up carb, absolutely perfect inside. Carb passed a pressure test. Unfortunately I can't pressure and vacuum test the crankcase as I don't have the block off plates and adapters.

You need some rubber wedges something like these. And if they won’t work on the intake, some Gorilla tape. I don’t own any block off plates and I haven’t found one yet that I can’t test

Pressure test through the filter is fine. Carb passed pressure test. I'm not going to spend more time on it. It's a $159.99 saw brand new

Exactly. What’s the point of charging someone more in parts/labor more than the saw is worth anyway? I would only attempt to fix if it was my own personal saw or family/friends... and even then cost cuts in at a certain point.

There is a cost factor to learning. How will you know what was wrong with it if you don't find out?

A guy had me fix a brand new 455 rancher once that fell off the tailgate and cracked the gas tank. For some retarded reason they designed the gas tank as part of the actual clamshell cases. 150$ to buy the damn cases and 4 hours to take the whole saw apart.... and put it back together... and test it. So he bought the saw for 399$... paid me 200$ (I was a nice guy and charged him 50$ labor cause I felt bad).... 599$ total into a POS homeowner saw. Coulda bought a pro 50cc saw for that much money.... at least if the gas tank breaks it’s 100$ for a new tank and easy to do. I’m not just picking on the 455 rancher... all homeowners saws are designed obsolescence. Only worth it if you buy them cheap used if ya wanna cut some twigs around the yard... I understand not everyone needs a pro saw.

Well said Mason. Talked with him and he's just going to buy a new one and take the bar, chain, and scabbard as spares. He also said that he did accidentally straight gas it last year.

Yes. Certain instances it's not worth it. BUT...

Jeff, you will be happy to know my Chainsaw paints in the "revised" size came today, and they fit much better.

I'm sure I'll try them out when I'm done with the house siding/staining project!

Actually installed one more 4 X 8 between raindrops today. Got it up (7.5') all by myself!

I screw a temporary 2 X 4 ledge into the trim, then haul the sheet up with a rope and pully attached to the ladder. Have a hook on the rope that I lock to the ladder rung, then I get under it and position it into place! Did it all by myself … where there is a will, there is a way!

3250 watt Chinese generator ready to test run tomorrow. New fuel valve, line, carb and spark plug. Sliced my finger open trimming the fuel line to length so I'm having a beverage to help forget about it....

image.jpg Tool I made to “finally” (been tryin two years) remove the clutch on my 110cc Twin. The spring is worn out. The clutch on my other one (100cc) comes off easy peesy. Lefty tightly, righty loosee. I have been bending on this *b-word for almost two years. Won’t budge. So I made this. Look at the pic and guess what’s missing. image.jpg
It’s hard to see but there’s no threads in the clutch or on the crank save for that required for a jam nut. I leaned into this thing with everything I have and finally snap! I looked down and saw the clutch in the floor and my heart almost stopped. I thought I broke the crank. It’s a tapered crank with a locknut, no key
Wow. No wonder it wouldn’t turn. The other Twin is conventional in every way (clutch). She’s gonna get that new clutch spring now.
Edit: I’m certain I had tried the jacking screws in the two threaded holes you see near the center, but not knowing “how” it’s installed kept me from really cranking down on it. Remember, my other Twin has the left hand threaded version. This is not even an option as far as the IPL I have says. No parts resembling these can be found there.
