Chinese generator test ran well under load, started on Craftsman push mower with plastic carb Briggs, found dirty carb and water in the fuel. Letting everything dry overnight and then I'll ultrasonic clean the carb tomorrow after I get back from boating.. greased bearing buddies, checked air in tires, checked trailer lights and evicted some unwanted tennants from the trailer tongue. Hooked up to the Escape and ready to go in the morning.

The MOFO saw shop got hoed out for metal fabrication.

Hubs for my brother’s custom HAM radio antenna, which are NLA so needed to be fabricated. Realized just how rusty I got with aluminum Tig, haven’t welded aluminum in over a year at least. Good practice, as many many rod and torch angles.

Will post pictures as it progresses. It's a pretty special car to the family, my grandfather special ordered it new and was at the dealership when it rolled off the truck.
Very cool you guys still have it. Looking forward to seeing some progress on it. Is it a 427 car?

Homelite 240 that I got for free the other day. Added fuel, bar oil, choked it, turned the switch on and it came back to life pretty quickly. Tweaked carb slightly and it was running sweet. Oils nicely too. Chain looks good so I'm just going to let it eat tomorrow.

Plastic carb Briggs was reassembled, test ran and courtesy washed for pickup tomorrow.

Not on my bench per se but in the back of the Jeep. A pair of original C5AE 427 long tube exhaust manifolds for my Dads 1965 Galaxie 500.

I am very impressed, knew they existed but have never seen them before! Too bad the 67/68 390 GT motors did not have something like that, would have made a world of difference!

I'll bet your Dad's 65 has the Thunderbird stickers on the front fender. My Mom had a 65 Country Squire with a 390 and it had the stickers (the car had been pre owned by Charlotte Ford).

Good luck with that project and keep us posted! Tell us about it, is it a low/medium or hi riser … single four our dual quads?

The 427 I put in my 70 Boss Mustang was a 66 Holman and Moody seasoned block with side oiler and cross bolted mains. The crank was trued (cut 10 + 20) but it had low riser pistons. Just as well, I did not have heads for it, so I was able to run 428 CJ heads on it.

I bought the short block when I was at college in Rochester NY for $300!!! Then I picked up a pristine 70 Boss 302 body (the bearings had spun for the second time) for $800. Those were the days!!!

Not Dads car but identical to it, 1965 Galaxie 500 Sportsroof Caspian Blue Metallic with Medium Blue interior. Factory Big Block, automatic column shift, posi rear and dual exhaust.
Man does that take me back. My father custom ordered his ‘65 Galaxy 500 in Forest Green Metallic, 410H.P. 427 (single carb),Factory Air, tinted glass, light green metallic interior. Auto trans, PS and NO power brakes. He was told there was no room for the booster. Roll up windows and an AM radio w/ rear speaker. It had dual exhaust but pretty sure it did not have posi-traction. He gave it to me when it had 40k miles on it. Wish I could get it back. I do remember it had huge cast iron headers on it as well. Was a really nice car and an unbelievable fir a first car.

Was just looking over the pic of the ‘65. That car would have the 289 in it. It has no fender badge.
I was only a kid but I believe the only ‘65 that got a fender badge had to have a big block in it. 352, 390, 427.
Edit: they were selling a 406 c.i. engine at the time too, but I don’t believe Ford put them in their passenger cars. The cast iron headers from the 406 will fit the 427. I used one from a wrecked truck to replace a cracked one on my car.

Finished up another 361 yesterday. This was a “C” model originally, so it had a powder coated standard PTO case half swapped in, porting, muffler gut and mod (worst Stihl muffler in existence IMHO). Also, the intake tract has an 044 boot installed which is matched to intake snout, 044 clamp and inner/outer surround, 290 impulse line, custom throttle linkage and the HD34 was swapped out for an HD16.

The carb swap requires not only swapping the choke shafts and plates, But also widening the groove in the 361 shaft to accept the larger choke plate. The metering cover needs to be swapped out with 361 cover, but the pump cover stays 16b for the impulse line which has to be swapped out to match the 044 boot. Definitely a lot of work, but worth it in the end.

The carb was obviously cleaned and rebuilt completely.

Some carb work pics. Note the difference in the choke plate size.

Well, my 110cc twin hasn’t been running right so I finally got around to checking out the ignition system. Found a ground wire for one of the coils getting into the flywheel, had rubbed the insulation off and explained why that spark plug was soot covered. I also found this . :( One of the 4 corners that mount the side plate to the engine has broken off. :oops:40E805FD-A315-457C-818C-8C785F13A27E.jpeg
It’s hard to see the top line but it’s there. I do have a spare, so it’s not the end of the world.

I’ll change out the side plate later. I set the points and put it all back together and now it runs like it used too. Good news/bad news kinda thing.
