I am very impressed, knew they existed but have never seen them before! Too bad the 67/68 390 GT motors did not have something like that, would have made a world of difference!

I'll bet your Dad's 65 has the Thunderbird stickers on the front fender. My Mom had a 65 Country Squire with a 390 and it had the stickers (the car had been pre owned by Charlotte Ford).

Good luck with that project and keep us posted! Tell us about it, is it a low/medium or hi riser … single four our dual quads?

The 427 I put in my 70 Boss Mustang was a 66 Holman and Moody seasoned block with side oiler and cross bolted mains. The crank was trued (cut 10 + 20) but it had low riser pistons. Just as well, I did not have heads for it, so I was able to run 428 CJ heads on it.

I bought the short block when I was at college in Rochester NY for $300!!! Then I picked up a pristine 70 Boss 302 body (the bearings had spun for the second time) for $800. Those were the days!!!

Was originally a 352 Thunderbird Special which came with C4AE Low Riser heads, and yes it has the Thunderbird Badge on the fender. The engine that I am building for it is a 0.030" over 390 with C8AE medium riser heads. I have a factory 4V intake and Autolite 4100 carb but am considering either putting on a FiTech EFI or if I get lucky enough to find one a factory 6V is definitely a possibility.

Man does that take me back. My father custom ordered his ‘65 Galaxy 500 in Forest Green Metallic, 410H.P. 427 (single carb),Factory Air, tinted glass, light green metallic interior. Auto trans, PS and NO power brakes. He was told there was no room for the booster. Roll up windows and an AM radio w/ rear speaker. It had dual exhaust but pretty sure it did not have posi-traction. He gave it to me when it had 40k miles on it. Wish I could get it back. I do remember it had huge cast iron headers on it as well. Was a really nice car and an unbelievable fir a first car.

My Grandfather special ordered this car as well, it also has power steering but no power brakes (guess it was a big block thing).

Was just looking over the pic of the ‘65. That car would have the 289 in it. It has no fender badge.
I was only a kid but I believe the only ‘65 that got a fender badge had to have a big block in it. 352, 390, 427.
Edit: they were selling a 406 c.i. engine at the time too, but I don’t believe Ford put them in their passenger cars. The cast iron headers from the 406 will fit the 427. I used one from a wrecked truck to replace a cracked one on my car.

Yes it has the Thunderbird badge on the fender (352 Thunderbird Special). The 406 was the big engine option from 1961 to mid year 1963 when it was replaced by the 427.

My Father's 64 Galaxy with the 352 and my Mom's 65 Country Squire with the 390 both had power brakes.

The 427 was the same block, but I think the valve covers on the 427 may have precluded the power brake option.

When I put the 427 in the 70 Stang, with M/T valve covers, I had to cut the corner off the valve cover to clear the power brake unit. I sealed it with a piece of Aluminum and some silicon. No one ever noticed!

I know where there’s a ‘65 Country Squire sitting in a field of Kudzu not 20 miles from my house. Can really only see it if it’s winter time and you know where to look.

Pulled my 357 apart for a new intake clamp. While I'm in there I'm going to also replace the intake boot, impulse hose and carb flange. Cheap insurance against a scored top end.

Ahhh. OK. Good...
It runs really well. When I assembled it I took a compression test and it was pulling 175 psi not run. Will do another when I get it back together.

looks like a ring hooked the ex port. high hour loggers saw. jug is fubar to.
See if you can break off a piece of the ring and fit it underneath the locating pin. I’ve seen a few 661’s destroyed because the locating pin got pushed up into the piston which allowed the ring to turn and snag in the transfers
