I do not have e-free gas available locally. I run AMSOIL Saber at 40:1 in everything and it seems to stay good for long periods of time and when a builder ripped one of my saws apart, he said the parts were well oiled. It also burns clean. It even seem to prevent the inferior bearings in Asian clone saws from failing, and one of my Asian 660s dynoed at 8.6 Hp.

I currently have 17 running saws, so some of them don't get used for long periods of time. (Different saws for different stuff). I like the 660s for milling and I have 5 of them, but sometimes I don't mill for long periods of time.

I would never say it is the best, but it works real darn well! Much, much better than the Stihl oil at 50:1 (and if you run that at 40:1 it is dirty).

When something works for me, I don't change it.

So something I've wondered for awhile if you Google running Dominator in saws it says it lacks corrosion inhibitors and fuel stabilizers. So is there an issue with that oil stuff sitting in that for a weeks? Months? Years? Sometimes I run saws non stop for a month and sometimes they sit without being touched for 3 or 4 months depending on the saw. Any issue with rust? Or is Google pulling this from something an idiot said on another form?
It has a rust inhibitor package just like the others, but it doesn’t have a fuel stabilizer. That came straight from an email to Amsoil

Eggshooter proved that a few years ago. Put several different oils onto a piece of shiny steel and set them on a shelf for a year in his damp garage. Dominator didn’t rust at all.

Part of learning from the Internet is understanding which morons you need to listen to

Ok thanks! I hadn't seen that test.

Both are made by Lubrication Technologies. The question is whether they are the same oil. I am having trouble finding the correct SDS sheet for Castrol to compare them. Interestingly, though, the Castrol JASO certificate number is suspiciously close to numbers held by Husqvarna. Maybe it is blue for a reason?
Here is the sds for the Castrol....

Actually air cooled two cycle oils dont have dedicated rust inhibitor packages. They contain some calcium or magnesium based detergent that does have some buffering capacity to neutralize combustion by product acids. I wouldn't trust any of them for more than 6 months in a damp climate. Ester oils like like K2, Dominator, R50, etc are particularly less robust at corrosion protection. This is because they use ester base oils. Esters have great biodegradability, which means they breakdown in the presence of air and water. This property also makes them less robust at protecting from corrosion.
Regardless of oil used a guy should use fogging oil when storing s two cycle. Its cheap, available at Walmart and takes seconds to fog chainsaw. After having expensive motor rust on me years ago I started using it and have ever since with perfect results.

I have heard that synthetics don't cling as well in stored saws. Is that true also, or is it primarily the biodegradability that is the issue?

Not that it matters if you fog before storage, but I was just curious.

Yeah I'm aware that the addition of gas and combustion is going to change things but if nobody else has a issue running it that's good enough for me.
Most guys yard stick on oil is their machine they run relatively little didnt blow up..
Severe corrosion will cause failure. Light corrosion my or may not and you have to inspect to know for certain.
I never knew my sleds crank was corroded until I tore into it to re ring.
Fogging before storage takes seconds and is the easy route in all this....hint hint.

I wasn't even aware fogging was a thing until you mentioned it. I'll definitely be getting a can.

I use it on all my stuff both 2 and 4 cycle when I put it away for the year.
I use this stuff. Walmart stocks it.

Do you spray it intermittently and then finally kill it with the spray or shut it off and take the plug out and give it a few squirts ?

Idk what stabil smells like but I've used amsoils fogging spray for quite a while on my mower and pressure washer and I think it smells good when I start them again in the spring.

Give it a few squirts short of stalling it, then give a long squirt until the engine stops spinning. I think this method is much better than spraying into the plug hole, which won't get the upper and lower rob bearings or the entire cylinder. Alot of it ends up in the exhaust port when using that method.
I've also used the Amsoil product and Mercury marine product in the past. The Stabil is available at Walmart so it's easier for me to source.
