I've just assembled one of these and spinning it with a 1/2 drill, it's making 40 lbs of oil pressure on my gauge. After a while I expected to see oil coming to the rocker arms like a car engine but I looked and the pushrods aren't hollow and there's no oil passage to the head other than a return so I guess they're relying on what just happens to get blown up there by crankcase pressure. Is this correct?

Sorry guys, I guess the above is a stupid question but when you've been priming car engines on a stand for over 50 years, old habits are hard to break. Wanted to delete this but didn't see any way to do it.

Definitely not a stupid question, but they do rely on oil mist getting up there. I expect that if you were to put a clear OHV cover on the engine, there would be an astonishing amount of oil reaching the rockers. By the way, Kohler's have a seriously overbuilt valve train. Their valve springs and pushrods are massive compared to anyone else.

Appreciate the reply. I've always watched for oil to come out of the pushrod onto the rockers but didn't see any today. It hit me what was going on when I remembered that my GX390 is OHV and doesn't even have a pressurized oiling system.
I guess you can teach an old dog a new trick every once in a while.
