ultra can burn as clean if you tune your equipment right. and stihl ultra burns clean in a lawn boy
and it makes me wonder if ultra is a ashless oil.

They screwed up bigtimeultra was developed for the the 4 mix engines just like when shindaiwa had red armor developed for their 2/4 hybrid engines.
Money to be made in repairs. Smart on their partStihl didn't have an Ultra when I left the company in 2005 , all there was at that time was the regular oil made to our specs by Castrol and it was a clean burning oil .
Why Stihl would use a lesser oil in the Ultra does not make sense at all . All I can think of is they were trying to produce a cleaner burning oil for the 4 mix engines that were having a lot of issues from carbon but by the sound of it ultra isn't even near improving that and it's been on the market for several years so I'm sure they must be aware it's not working well and I'm sure they have had lots of complaints .
Strange for a company such as Stihl to let something like that slide and not improve it .![]()
poulan oil works good in a 4 mix. They screwed up bigtime
Who blends the Poulan Jake?poulan oil works good in a 4 mix.
Sorry man. Short fuze when it comes to stihl-epa ripoff secondary products..I was being a teenie bit sarcastic. You of all people should have recognized that![]()
Definitely not me. I'm still running gear oil from a 55 gallon drum. And fd rated citgo for mix oil... $22/gallonSorry man. Short fuze when it comes to stihl-epa ripoff secondary products..
Who pays 27 buks fer a gal of bar oil cause it is guarenteed to b da bees knees, so sayss the salesperson who has never run a saw..
If you start a thread some people will trip balls about tackifiers. And how it's needed and stuff. It's been proven that vegetable oil and hydraulic oil both work. I doubt any kind of actual bar oil will be detrimental to bar or chain life
5w30 or 10w30 work fine in a saw also.If you start a thread some people will trip balls about tackifiers. And how it's needed and stuff.
Petroleum oils assists in the combustion process, synthetics don't aid combustion. Engine design and port shape has much to do with how 'clean' things are too.IMO those older minerals oils r fine. I think the trouble comes in with bad tune and low operating temps. But I think alot of the oils mineral or synthetic just burn dirty regardless
The only thing that I have to spooge is my fs80. And that's in any oil I've tried. Every one I've seen does that. To much exhaust savaging I guess?
Mix decomposes in 90 days or less.
Jake I burn 108 gallons of fuel in 7hrs today!! Can u top that??!!the 3.2 oz bottle poulan oil at Walmart is 78 cents before tax here so that is cheap compared to ultra
if you want to use that oil at 50:1 just mix it with 1.25 gallons of gas
Pretty well any oil works. Only long bars and milling with no auxiliary oiler is when you see wear extremely fast. It's been proven that vegetable oil and hydraulic oil both work. I doubt any kind of actual bar oil will be detrimental to bar or chain life
