on my 660 with one exhaust port it was getting too hot for my liking ,with the dual port front cover it runs cool enough not to burn the paint off the cover ,having the exits face the way yours are keeps the rain out also ,on the mill it faces them down at the ground .

Stihl 660 octane tach.jpg
My buddy Ron660 cutting with his MMWS 660 running 93 octane and Sunoco 110 with Motul 800t @ 32:1, 1st video 93 octane
Here's the tach readings. I was told I was a slightly rich in that size of wood. Plus I need to be more consistent with my cutting technique. This was recorded about 1.5 years ago....my first video. Edit-addition: 110 was a little faster in both cuts but I need to retest to verify.

There are opinions and there are facts. The problem with this site and others is guys through out opinions that are not based in fact. Regurgitating alot of old wives tales and patent falsehoods. This does no one anygood.
Not sure I agree; (sometimes) you state what you thought you knew, and when you get an (opposing view), you learn a (new lesson), or new perspective that you (maybe?) were not even aware of. (Sometimes) you accept the new; sometimes (you may) not. One of my favorite sayings is "If everything was as easy as we (thought) it was, the grand-kids would have already done it". The (scientific community) used to say "that it (scientific fact) that the earth is flat". I do believe in "No stupid questions". Sometimes, what we thought we said is not what we meant, and sometimes, even when we said it correctly, that is NOT what they heard, LOL :-)

The problem is, just as the flat earthers, people tend to spout stuff off as fact, sometimes very adamantly, that their only source for is hanging out with the local culls at the auto parts store or something similar. You also have guys that observe things but can't grasp the differance between correlation and causation.
Really it's is a sad indictment of the state of science education in this country.

Believe it or not....I'm still learning from this thread. One thing I've learned is just because I've conducted a few octane, or oil, tests doesn't mean it's a fact. Variables, such as proper tune compared to an overly rich tune, can probably change your outcome. You have to be open-minded and not get pissed with feedback that disputes your findings. You might learn something.

I ran 20-25 tanks of lawnboy ashless oil at 32:1 and husqvarna ls or xp at 32:1 in my 545, I bucked and limbed about two dozen maples with it the fuel was marathon 87 ethanol free
me thinks the plug looks fine this saw ran for the better part of a summer and fall doing firewood duty. Sorry if the pictures are a little fuzzy it is hard to focus on a plug this small

Tune is huge. I thought I had my 670 jred tuned about right til I took it to the wood pile. It felt doggy and I ended up going 1/4 turn leaner. Took 20% off cut times

I didn't tach it, but I'd say easily 1 to 1.5k more. Both 4 stroking out of the cut, both cleaning up in the cut. Obviously the leaner tune cleaned up with less force
