A Fein 1200 watt orbital sander really helps though! Even if I guess I feel like I have Parkinson's afterwards ;)

Here is another piece sitting under cover outside. Has had a coat of festool surfix oil.

Here is that mini kitchen table. With the makita orbital and a festool scuff pad fitted.

Just a quick cafe table base fitted for present. Will hunt for a better design later. (Got told not to publish this photo as it is to messy ;) - not my place so will be replaced by a diff photo later.. )

Thanks pete :) couple more to get knocked out/over still. Really looking forward to getting working on yours and another fella's saws soon. Love the end results, but doing something you love for money can take the pleasure out of it.

I'm a couple years I'll make something nice outta this walnut. Ended up with 5 slabs like this one and about 250 bd/ft of 4/4 lumber.

Dad's bar for the cabin. This was milled out of one section of pine crotch last December. The crotch pieces were turned to meet at the tops and didn't line up too bad for using a sketchy guide board set up. I wish the new guide rails would have been around then, but all in it's not too bad. Needs planing and sanding, and he's going to finish it in epoxy.

Those are awesome! Welcome to OPE!
Thank you very much, really like making stuff from start to finish. Very lucky to have friends that do tree removal and they save me big stuff. This maple was to heavy to load so had to cut down to about 5' long. Was 38x43 across stump

1) How long do you dry it?

2) How do you keep it from checking?

3) What do you finish it with?

Dry time 1-2 years and use my moisture meter to check, I use anchor seal on ends to help with checking but if it's going to split it is going to and you work with it. I use many different things lots of watco danish oil with water based poly or 2 part epoxy over it.
