On this muffler business I'd often wondered how or if a pressure can type would have made any improvement .Of course on any 10 series being a bottom discharge it would be a challenge to adapt .

I had a good running 790 in Tennessee, we shoulda fired it up and run it against your 125; I think they're to close in power to be able tell any difference.

I'd like to see that as the 6 cube Mac's I've had won't come close to any of the 125's I've had with a 36" or even more so with a 50" bar buried in Doug fir.

I was considering bidding on it but I don't know enough about the saw. Asked seller for some info on it and got no reply. Looked like a decent 797. Unpainted spark plug cover and block had my interest. Hate to buy something with little info. Bidding just ended with no sale. Seller did reply yesterday he hasn't run it in 6 years.

Well someone bought it for $550 today.

I guess there were about 360 people watching that saw. Guy finally emailed me back and said he builds cart motors out of them but the saw was too nice to tear apart so he put a new bar and chain on it and added it to his collection. Said he recently injured his hand loading up a go kart. Guess he was thinning out his collection.

I am a Stihl boy but really want to get a big mac!
I have an 090 that bores me a bit and want something different as a big play saw that I can do some restoration work on and make to go fast and sing loud.

I am going to talk with a man I know who has LOTS of big macs about possibly acquiring something nice.

My question here is, what is parts availability like for saws like the SP 125?
Stuff like clutch drums, clutches, crank seals, carb kits etc

Is it easy to find this sort of stuff that wears out or is it a nightmare that only hard core fans suffer?

Who makes a decent bar, both long and short for these big girls?

The parts you asking about are easy to find here in the states.
Clutches, drums, seals, points, condensers, carb kits are all
pretty available. Mostly on ebay but there are other Mac sources
out there as well.
I don't know who is making bars for them but all the manufacturers
did back in the day. Oregon, General, Cannon, Windsor, Etc. all
made nice bars for the big Mac's.

I just did a bit of ebay searching and found lots of stuff if I ever needed it so I am happy to chase one.

FWIW the easiest thing to do for bar on something like a Mac 125 is just use a Stihl mount with spacers .Stihl bars are readily available but long Homelite and McCullochs aren't .
A 36" bar is a perfect balance on a 125,not nose or tail heavy .
