FWIW the easiest thing to do for bar on something like a Mac 125 is just use a Stihl mount with spacers .Stihl bars are readily available but long Homelite and McCullochs aren't .
A 36" bar is a perfect balance on a 125,not nose or tail heavy .

Large (088/090) mount or small (044/066) mount?

I assume the husky spacers would work

Well I am re-considering my thoughts on getting a big mac
After spending a few hours with Mc bob today, who is a top bloke, I am left thinking I will stay with my 090.

To build a nice SP125, parts will be hard to get and expensive
He told me he had parts to build 20 of them but would not help me out with anything.

Was happy to help out with info and stories of days gone as well as be saddened by the thought of lost and stolen saws that would be rotting in someones shed, while the masses of Mcculloch awesomeness that he collects rots in his shed.

kind of saddened me a bit.

Oh well, back to Stihl for me

You can find the large McCullochs but you have to look for them .Usually they fetch a healthy chunk of change especially in the last few years

Both of mine came from flea bay and from the PNW which is where they were used to most.A tad over 100 bucks each .One I had to do extensive work to,making and installing a cast iron cylinder sleeve .The other almost nothing .Old saws from flea bay it's the luck of the draw what you might get .

Problem with being in the land down under if you did find one shipping from the west coast of the USA would be as much as the price of the saw .

Sorry to hear of your experience in Weston Brewz - I know what you mean.
The 125 saws are about the place, and they do pop up for sale every now and then. The NSW forestry commission used them for a number of years as did many of the pro fallers on the east coast. I have found mine all over the place, including a bunch of NOS parts right here in central Wollongong.
Don't give up - you will find one if you are prepared to put in the effort.

Any recommendations where to get both intake gaskets for 797? Also need big gasket for top of fuel tank.

I don't seem to be able to link it but look up Ebay under McCulloch 1-82 or 1-76 and you will find the tank gasket for $11.95 + shipping.

Darin, you may want to coat the inside of that tank before you reassemble.

I and several others have used Redbone with good results. I found it took a couple of weeks, in the summer, to dry in a 125 tank, but I coated it twice.

--caused by sitting on a concrete floor for a couple of decades no doubt .Never abandon a saw on a concrete floor .It's a chemical reaction between the alumina present in the blue clay slurry used to make portland cement and the aluminum in the alloy of the saw .

I did not know that. Good info to have. I reckon the fella I got it from kept it on cement floor. Saw is in good condition otherwise. Will try and get the old dog to turn over tomorrow. Redkote is on order from eBay.

Saw runs like a bandit but think it needs a carb kit. Talked with Lee for a bit about the problem. Run a full tank thru trying to get it to idle right...did the norm and started with 1 full turn out on both H and L...saw idles high at that initial setting but is running too rich when throttle opens...lean out the L and it opens up nice but idles even faster...idle screw backed all the way off...back out the L more and it will idle fine but open throttle is even more rich. Ordered carb kit for the old flatback. Hope that's it. Primer works, auto and manual oiler work. 36" bar gets here tomorrow. Set up with 7 pin .404. Might get an 8 pin 3/8...put a 36" stihl rollermatic bar on and looked like the oiler lined up good and also chain tightener for the hole...but I ain't got no chain for that. It is 3/8

Getting a working primer is a large bit of good luck. The saw likely needs a new diaphragm. The worst might be seals if the idle thing is still an issue.

Does this reed valve set up look right for a 797? The long tall space to the right of the intake does not mount to anything on the saw...I've seen other saws where there is a port that it merrys up to but the 797 don't have it.

797's don't have the third port. That space isn't used. Looks like the reeds have been flipped.
Where they in good shape. Did you use line up studs when you installed the tank. If not you
may have messed up the gasket. Take the carb apart and see how pliable the diaphragms are.
