Jenn Feng McCulloch saw with a dead coil. Amazon has them available for $20 delivered, we'll see if we can make it run again.

I make a point of cleaning them up before I move them up into the display.

This one has an "E-Z Start" type starter mechanism.

Max gave me this Titan sign at the MM GTG in October, finally got it up up a week ago.

More recently I have some visitors A.J. James, and Thomas (Alan Wolthuis' boys), they left me this NOS PM6 with a broken crankshaft.

What to do!

Can’t decide if I should repaint my D 33 brochure colour minus the chain guard it’s going to be black. Looking for opinions because I hate doing *s-word twice
I would go as close to factory as you can (black chain guard should be fine), that way in the future if you go to sell it, there might be a collector who will appreciate the effort and pay a little more than for one that was customized to someone else's taste (I know I would). I am working on a D-44 and a 250 right now and the 250 will be factory, the D-44 will have a little more creative license with the connecting hardware that can easily be changed out to factory if that is what the next owner will want to do.

What does as close to mean? as close to the brochure which was the vision or as close to reality because they were dragging their ass during production battling homelite

I would go with how they rolled of the assembly line. I would try to put it back as close to its original state.

Many use Rustoleum Sunburst Yellow but that is a bit more orange than the original, very close to to the later Pro Mac saws like the PM800.

I have found some John Deere yellow and Industrial Safety yellow that were much closer to the original shade used on the earlier saws..

If I remember to look I will see if I have any leftover from the last McCulloch project and confirm what I used.

Some folks have had paint custom mixed to match the older saws, here is an example that was recommended to me:

So I can tell you from personal experience that the paint on McCulloch varied year to year on like parts. These recoil covers are all NOS, sealed in McCulloch bags and stored in the same cardboard box for 20 plus years. If you look close each has a different tint of yellow.

Hey fellas, figured I’d post my new-to-me 850 over here and see what all I can learn about it. Picked it up a few days ago and took it out yesterday to see how it runs. Saw appears to be pretty complete, minus a few small things and really in pretty decent shape. It runs alright, starts right up and doesn’t race or do anything goofy. Seemed to cut OK, but feels a little down on power for an 82cc saw. It is pulling a 32” with a .404 chain, and the other saws I’m running are a lot newer but I think I will begin to tear it down today and start going thru what parts are worn out and what needs to be replaced to be as good as new. Not sure I am calling this a restoration, but I’d like to paint it and make it look nice but I DO plan on using it from time to time!

I did post on one of the Mac groups on Facebook, so some of you may have seen it already but here it is!

Couple more pics. I was excited it came with a 32” Mcculloch bar. With the wood out here we can get away with longer bars, but feel a 28” might suit it better?

Looks like a nice saw, should clean up really well. Is the chain .404 .058 or .063? I have a couple of macs with .404 .058 bars and that chain is hard to find now. I can put on different bars, but the ones I have have McCulloch stamps on them.

One of our members here has an on-line store that offers free IPLs for older saws and many reproduction parts, especially gasket kits and carb kits.

This one is .063. I’ll snap pics of the numbers in the bar as well when I go back out there. This thing is awesome. I don’t know what it is about it but it’s just cool to run! The 400 and even the 550 cut so well there really isn’t much need for anything else but the Mac is just cool!
