You can try closing the points a few thousandths of an inch, try 0.015-0.016" fully open and see if that helps.

Mark
Okay , this will soften compression because it will fire early?

sorry had page open and didn’t see your post. Yes using prime bottle. We were so close but Leary of that handle and it started to get buggy and was going to rain, but we were excited about how it was sounding.
Try a larger prime, if it’s just a trickle, that’s not enough, something close to a tablespoon worth

I found I am missing two pieces from the fuel pump. #45 & #46. Mark, @heimannm, do you have these?

I also see my carburetor is a 4-30 & the fuel pump is from a 3-25 or early 4-30. I’m trying to figure this saw out. I found this when I went to replace the seal on the clutch side.

It was never all the way in.

How are you trying to start it from the ground ? If that’s not working for you , use the saw’s PH weight to ur advantage, rest bar tip on a log and push the saw away from you as you pull hard , and as Nathan said use a good size prime ,

Morning Squarground, yes starting from ground. Action was becoming much more fluid and may attempt starting in that manner but until totally turns over smooth I’ll continue this way. We did attempt as I instructed little brother that this is how to turn over like a pro and he tried then we laughed.

It’s much easier, doing it the way I described if you’re not strong armed, but hopefully your successful,

We are giving another go after work. I’m confident and little brother is fifteen years my junior so he can keep pulling a bit longer than me. Once it rumbles a few times I hope like Big Mac said that it becomes less lean. Felt that was what was happening. Then I will learn techniques on proper starting. Expected a much easier pull with decomp.

Good new, bad news...

I have two parts under 19257, good news is you can make the one from the other if needed, bad news is if you don't have one to begin with I don't know how to determine which one you actually need.

I don't have any 19645 in my inventory but I will look at some parts saws next week and see what I can find.

so followed a train of thought and made an auxiliary tank and pulled. The carb pulled fuel but the line was too long. While shortening pulled adhesive causing a leak so moto sealed. Will wait until tomorrow now. Will also get back into points tomorrow.

I need some input on how to put the HL carb back in the 1-70 with only 2 hands. One has to get the fuel line on,have the carb gasket in place, hook the choke linkage in,& get the vane connected to the carb all at the same time.To top things off I think I lost a part of the throttle linkage, there's no way that it'll reach the carb with just the one piece that's there.

They are both the same just one side trimmed off. McCulloch changed things up as usual a couple models in. They both do the same thing.

The 1-4X saws were more "economy" models, the 1-5X saw were better equipped.

There were 1-40 (with Lubri-Mac and no chain oiler), 1-41, 1-42, 1-43, 1-45, and 1-46 models. The 1-41, 1-42, and 1-43 used bushings in the piston rather than needle bearings and some came without the lower brace (bottom of the rear handle).

The 1-52 and 1-53 were 87cc, all of the other 1-4X, 1-5X, and 1-6X saws were 80cc.

Just finished making up some new McCulloch Gaskets for 795, 797, and 895 Chainsaws. The insulator (Fold-over) gasket has been improved for better fit with scored bends so the gasket fits snugly against the insulator during installation.

67477 Fuel Tank & Insulator Gasket for 797, Super 797, 895, & 895C (Fold-over). https://www.oldsawshop.com/Fuel-Tank-&-Gasket-Insulator-67477-p690408096

67096 Reed Plate Gasket for 797, and Super 797 https://www.oldsawshop.com/Reed-Plate-Gasket-67096-p690408097

65657 Reed Plate Gasket for 795, 795L, and 895 https://www.oldsawshop.com/Reed-Plate-Gasket-65657-p690386702

Good morning, I have the girl running. Changed points and set to fifteen thousand. Cleaned coil and mounts once again and used an envelope instead of thicker card stock for coil gap. Cleaned carburetor and made sure gasket I made lines up with impulse hole. Went from yellow spark to big old blue and started in three pulls.

It sounds like all you need now is a 54" roller-nose bar and square-ground .404", a hickory shirt, a tin hat, and a cigar and you're ready to go fall timber...
