I'd always been taught that pistons were supposed to be slightly oval to account for differences in expansion due to different cross sectional areas but I don't recall ever seeing it measure out quite as precisely as this one.

Lastly, I was not going to reuse the original, buggered up rod cap bolts.

Last week I set up my Dremel as a tool post grinder in the lathe in order to rework some 6-40 screws for the oiler adjuster on a 300 Series saw. While I was at it I added a bit of a chamfer on some new 10-32x5/8 SHCS's I had on hand to provide the necessary clearance.

If this saw runs O.K. I will use it for demonstrations here on 10 August and again in Baraboo the following weekend. After that I will probably just add it to the display as I don't have an iron bore model up there yet.

I did basically the same thing replacing the rod screws before I located a spline wrench ..The spline screws are like trying to find a hen's tooth and the wrench is even more rare .Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do .

I night mention with conversations of log bars the hard nose 48" usable on the avatar saw is in fact a McCulloch bar .New old stock, never before used 143 drivers of .404 .058 .Both 125 Mac 's and the Homelite 2100S avater saw have no problem at all pulling it .Those big old Paul Bunyan saws were made in the time frame of western old growth cutting ,they very well on eastern oak also . These days they should run forever because they are not used that much .

Hi guys,I've been working on saws pretty much all summer, just not the yellow brand.I picked up this Mac 10-10 for $50.Seller said it ran on a prime.I got it delivered about 6:00p.m.today & went through it quickly. It's missing a bar plate, but that's about it.It needs a good cleaning,I'll see if I can save the domed AF.I put a new fuel filter in it & lubed the tyhrottle lock.It needed one prime to fire & after that it pulled fuel on it's own & restarted without a problem after I'd shut it off.I gotta get the recoil off so I can clean under the hood. It's a nice running saw!

Spent a few hours today at the world famous Heimann Saw Shop & Museum. Mark and his family was great! I got the grand tour on top of the "members only area" treat! Mark even let me cut with the most recent SP125 build! Was a great time and will be back for sure!

Thank again for a great time Mark!

Sorry we didn't have more time together Steve, I did not expect so many folks staying around with so many questions. It was a pretty busy day for me, didn't get to go up front to the display area other that our quick walk through.

Had a coworker give me an old 1-43 "because you like wrenching on older saws", I'm not planning on hanging onto it but I thought the old phone number on the sticker was pretty cool. I also brought my 1-82 down for repair since it refuses to run for more than a few seconds and bubbles appear around one of the intake bolts. I won't be able to start wrenching on it anytime soon, but I think it makes a neat looking display above my bench.

Don't worry about it! We all had a few unexpected situations that morning. That's great you had so much interest that day. Thank you so much for the hospitality! We will be back!

Got myself a lunch box today by chance!
The saw is stuck but not scored at the moment.
Can any of you gurus shine some light on me? I can’t even figure out how to take it apart. And after watching some YouTube videos, the fuel system intimidates me more.

There are two 1/4" screws in the back and one through the side of the case (long screw goes into the carburetor area) and the entire housing comes off in one piece.

The breaker points are accessible under that cover just above the fuel cap.

The cover and carburetor are pretty straight forward to access, you can see the screws all around.

If you have to get into the fuel pump that is more work, the bottom of the fuel tank has to come off.

Ralleyguy has a complete fuel system set including the tank gasket available. Old Saw Shop on eBay.

Once you work your way through them, the 33/35/39 model saws are some of the most reliable starting saws you will ever find. Loud, slow, heavy, awkward, but very reliable starting.
