I've only resleeved one engine and that was a Mac 125 c .It was relatively simple although very time consuming . I did meet a guy at
sawfest ,Dave I think and think it was CCC racing in Columbus Ohio who had been doing several .The process could be a viable option on something nearly impossible to find parts for .Fact they've used it on old Corvette brake cylinders for decades using stainless steel sleeves .

I think so,maybe Dave Smith ? I'm terrible on names .At any rate I think he might have experimented with to change pistons as he brought with him the most Wiseco piston assortment I've ever seen .Also might add a Homelite 650 old school hotty that was build by Big Dave decades ago . I ran a long long time ago . Which of course has nothing to do with McCulloch ,a slight derail --guilty

Here is a PM800. The two extra holes near the bottom of the bore are set screws holding the sleeve in place.

If I happen upon a stock cylinder I'll try to get some photos of that as well.

I think I have an 850 cylinder which should be about the same .That set screw deal could be an option to a heat shrink fit and being heavy walled I'd think cast iron ?If I get a chance I'll snap a picture .At the moment I'm hip deep replaceing the timbers on a raised bed garden .Danged things fell apart after 20 years .

I suspect the CP was the logical choice since the lower AV mount connects to the handlebar bracket?

BTW, I received a box from Mitch K this week with 4 different 82 cc cylinders sleeved and ready to go. Perhaps before the year is out I will make time to put another saw together.

Mark
Youd be correct mark. That was actually the key peice. The lower av mount bracket both to the saw and the lower handle brace. If not for those 2 it would not have worked.

The sleeves mitch uses he buys from summit racing. Im unsure of the specs honestly. The transferrs he did make a template. I gave him more than one cylinder to destroy so he could get measurements and make jigs and templates from. The intake and exhaust are cut after fitting by a bridgport and by hand. Then a die grinder to get them finished up. I watched him cut a cylinder in half lengthwise to make his transfer template. I cringed. The sleeve is pressed into the cylinder after its transfers are cut. Then its drilled thru for the set screws. The set screws are not tapped all the way thru for obvious reasons. Be a little bad for a piston to hit. Set screws are also loctite. He still has 1 of mine to do but is waiting on me to visit his shop to do it myself. Final sleeve sizing is done with a hone and lots of oil. Piston in hand to check size. Hone, check repeat. Once the piston falls in he stops. Thats why he wants a piston. So any a b or c piston will work. Pretty great to do it. I have 2 done one more to do. One day hopefully this year we are gonna tackle the 125.

Just to add my 2 cents on a 125 you can pop the welch plugs and cut the ports in .No need for a template .I honed the cylinder for around 4 thou piston fit .It's been over 10 years ago and I still don't have enough run time to seat the rings .

In lieu of the Iowa Spring GTG this year (Mark Hosky was injured in an accident at work and was unable to prepare) I suggested that anyone who wanted to come to Iowa in April to play with chainsaws could help me clean up some saws and move them into the display. They were a mosly Homelite crew but did a spectacular job on a number of saws that had been perched up on shelves for a few years collecting all the grime in my garage.

Mark Hosky was able to come and supervise.

Glad to see Mark getting back out and about. That knee looked pretty chewed up for awhile there.

Good to meet and chat with everyone. Mark - the shelf spaces are really filling in nicely with the specimens that we are seeing so far.
Trip home was uneventful, with stops being keep to a minimum.
