Don't let you mom catch you putting those smelly chainsaw parts around her nice wood stove.
That is actually considered to be okay. The only flack I received from my indoor saw washing and drying was a complaint about the smell of hot Super Clean degreaser emanating from the 3 gallon bucket in the laundry room.

I bought an Eager Beaver 2.1 last week fairly cheap - $18.It was supposed to have spark & good compression.I got the saw today & was a bit disappointed. It has intermittent spark & fairly good compression.I tried 3 different plugs & they all had the same result. If I put a prime in the plug hole it'd fire, but if I put a prime in the carb the plug would be wet & no fire.I can't figure this one out.Probably another 300 series junker.

I think I might've found the no oiling issue on my E.B.2.1 that I bought 5 yrs.ago.When I pulled the tank off the oil line was all kinked & I replaced it not knowing that there's supposed to be a spring in the line to prevent it from collapsing. That spring was missing, apparently someone had been in the oiling system prior to me & they disposed of it,or just didn't know what the purpose was.The part # 93998.I guess it pays to read the service manual every now & then.

Today I pulled the oil tank off the E.B.2.1 (the newly acquired saw) to see if all was the way it should be - spring in the oil line,a free & clear pick up,& no kink or breaks in the line,& all was good. The problem must be in the pump, possibly a stuck check valve.I know nothing about these oil pumps & would greatly appreciate some help.

Ed- I have noticed that if the oil line is too long and too soft, they can develop a kink when you put the oil tank in place on the saw.

Ed - I have the complete automatic oil pump (93503/216424) for the 300 Series saws in inventory.

The line is not too long.I think it's collapsing because it's too soft.I've pulled the tank out several times & haven't found any kinks.I used Tygon line which may be too soft.
I'm thinking of pulling the oil tank & line from the newest 2.1 (which has the original line with the spring) & putting it on my older 2.1 to see if I can have at least one 2.1 that oils properly.

I think I found the oiler problem on the E.B.2.1,Lol.I've never seen an oil pump piston come apart like that.Good thing I found the old oil pump from my 1st 2.1.It had a good piston in it & I managed to make a good pump out of the 2.Getting the bail off proved to be quite a task.thumbnail.jpg

That is actually a fairly common failure mode. I have the phenolic piston if you what to have some spare parts on hand for the next one.

Mark
If the 310,320,330 oil pumps fit, then I have a couple parts saws that I can cannibalize.I'd need the entire innards for an oil pump,I have no idea what happened to the manual pump section.Probably cheaper to just buy a complete oil pump.

I was the winner of a 5-10A on Feebay last night for $36.The saw looks to be in good shape, but I know nothing about the mechanics of it.The saw is complete & has a Walbro SDC carb.I should have it by week's end, weather pending (we're supposed to get slammed with up to 2 ft.of snow by Sun.).
I forgot to mention that originally the seller had this saw listed for $45 or MO.I offered him $40 & he countered with $50.Next thing was he relisted it for 99 cents.I made 2 bids, one for the 99 cents, the other fgor $40.It never made it to the $40.I guess he should've accepted my first offer.

I put the oil pump back on the E.B.2.1 on Sun.& today I put oil in the tank to see if it'd oil.NOT.Anyone got any idea as to how much oil line should protrude from the oil tank prior to hooking it onto the oil pump elbow?

I don't know if all 5-10s came with a bullfrog carb.If I'm not mistaken the early models came with a bullfrog & the later models came with the SDC.My other 5-10 that I have came with an SDC too.It had an SDC2 on it & was changed to an SDC18.Now it really rips!

I have a note in the shop Ed, if I remember I will have a look tomorrow and let you know.

Last week was a DE8200 project (PM8200 short block in a DE80 chassis).

This week's project is a PM10-10.

I uncovered a few issues...
