Those old 10-10's will run almost forever but some of the early models vibrate so much after ten minutes you can't feel your finger tips . Back in the day we used pipe insulation ,rubber hose and rubber electrical tape to attempt to tame them down . Quite frankly I really don't know how many I have from right hand start up to one of the last ever made which is 57 cc and looks nearly brand new .In all those only one I paid for and it came in with about 70 pounds of Mac parts ,from Ohio I paid more for the shipping than the parts .

Did all Mac 10-10 come with the plate that goes on either side of the chain bar at the oiler? I got a older model 10-10 that has none.

I have a pretty good assortment of bar protector plates that will work on the 10 Series saws, a few NOS, several used, a couple other part numbers (from later saws), and even some aftermarket .

218832 only works on saws with the inboard bar adjuster like the 600 Series and Titan models. I suppose they would work on many of the Poulan CV saws as well with inboard bar adjusters.

They are called bar protector plates for a reason...

Thats a good "hack" Al.
Not thought of much these days.
Folks go to Google now quicker than the "scrap pile".
Lot left unsaid about what people did and thought of thats lost now.
Thanks for sharing.
"Critical thinking" is being lost completely! Fewer and fewer people are able to think for them selves or even think through simple issues.

Most of it is just common sense which generally speaking is not so common any more .Those who perhaps know just a little bit about for example chainsaws might think they need original OEM parts which many do not to work well .Older models such as McCulloch you won't find most modern shops to even work on them but they'd gladly sell you a new machine .So if you have one you're out of options ,you have to do it or park it on a shelf to sit forever .BTW I get a lot of freebies because of that .:)

I got the PM55 out today & was going to put the carb on it & give her a try,but I noticed the manual oil plunger is hanging up (binding). It pumps oil,but stays stuck in the in position.I have to pull it out manually.I tried putting lube on the oiler button to no avail. It worked fine before I put the fuel tank on.Ideas?

If you tried the kerosene/diesel treatment, you may have washed the lubrication from the pump and getting more oil through there might help. Worst case scenario, something has caused the o-ring to swell or it's broken and sticking in the pump body.

If the pickup line is blocked, it would explain the plunger not returning after it's been pressed.

I haven't run any kerosene through it yet,but the 1st shot of oil that came out at the bar pad was pure black, which tells me the cheapos were running used motor oil in it.This could very well be the issue. The oil pick up line is clear as far as I know.

I have a confession to make. I sent my last two Mac saws and remaining paraphernalia down the road last night. Just got tired of them sitting on the shelf unused. They went to a great home and will be loved for years to come. We have all but quit using firewood on the farm and haven't cut firewood on any scale for 3 years now. Even sold a few of my late model work saws too.

Don't worry, I still have all my knowledge from collecting the last 15 years and love hanging around you guys too!

Dont rule out a mechanical bind.
You said you had the fuel tank off. You mean the lower half with the rear handle?
Check to make sure the rod isnt binding on something under there.

I'm sure I am. I actually don't know what to do with the extra shelf space!!!!
Ive got an idea.
Why dont you use that space for temporary storage of the yellow goodness that you dont need, so as you aquire them, you can send them to me? Then you can have a constant state of satisfaction from filling, emptying, and refilling those otherwise barren shelves.:):D

Sorry to hear you're not into saws anymore Steve!

I took the recoil off the PM55 to have a look at the oiler rod & all seems to be lined up properly.I sprayed some Deep Creep lube around the manual oiler where the rod goes in & on the oiler button, all to no avail. It pumps oil perfectly, but won't return the oiler button.I'm thinking of swapping out the oiler rod.

Wow,this place is dead.I understand why folks didn't work on saws in the summer, but it's Nov.now,Lol.Maybe got 'em all fixed & out cutting firewood?

I picked up another PM55 for $50.Supposed to have only 90 psi.I'm supposed to get it today.

I also bought an Eager Beaver 2.1 for $18.Supposed to have good compression & spark.I'll get that next week.I have another E.B.2.1 here that I bought about 5 yrs.ago.It runs like a champ, but neither one of the oiolers works.I put a new oil line in it & a different pump & still it doesn't oil.I take that back, the manual oiler will work till I put the cover back on,& NO the line isn't being pinched.Just being a contrary PITA.
