I guess Bob J.is coming along with his case of shingles according to Woody Strohmen.I had to call Woody to order some throttle rod seals (boots). It seems that if anyone has them they think they're made of precious metals & gems (on Feebay anyway).I was re-using the boots out of older throttle handles, but I ran out.

I brought up another 610 from the back shed to tinker with.First thing I did was pressure test the carb that was on the saw & it didn't hol;d pressure.I pulled the carb off & apart & couldn't find a thing wrong with it.That's a junk carb.I put a good Zama on the saw that held pressure & no fire.I pulled thge carb back off & once again the impulse isn't working.I'll pull that saw apart tomorrowe after my eye dr.appointment.This is getting to be really disheartening.I can't seem to cartch a break on these 610s.I've only got 2 or 3 more to go through.

Just letting everyone know I have recently uncovered a good supply of Item 57, PN 51396 cover assembly if you need a few for your old top tank McCulloch's.

That is one thing I could use .Years ago I used a Mac 125 carb on a 105 Mac and got rid of that pesky fixed jet carb and have had a rubber plug in the hole since . I'll fire off a PM

Guess what came in yesterday!?

20220308_183334.jpg

20220308_183404.jpg

Inside of the gas tank is knarly! It looks like ashes from a stove or something.

20220308_183628.jpg

The saw is pretty clean though. Here is the cab box.

20220308_184229.jpg

The manual oil pump rod is broken. But on the bright side, the saw has really good compression and spark.

That looks like corrosion in the fuel tank. It would be best to pull the cover off the tank and clean it out to make sure it's not rotted through anywhere.

+1 on that. Kinda looks like water/condensation damage.
Hows the bottom of the saw look?
Maybe sat on concrete, or a dirt floor for a bit?
Still a cool saw, and a worthwhile purchase.
Ive never seen one other than on here.

@Dream - Bottom looks great. I don't see any mag corrosion anywhere. Yes I agree, the tank needs to come off and cleaned up. Not sure the process on that....it doesn't look like the tank can be split, Il have to look up 10-10 tank threads or info on how to do it, if it can be pulled apart....

Heres what I got done today. I got the pitch cleaned out of the starter cover and around the flywheel, cylinder fins, ect. The saw is noticeable lighter!

Before. This pitch was half an inch thick in some spots.

After - I didn't make those paint scrape marks I swear!

Three screws is all that's needed to split it. One big screw on top that goes through the fuel tank and two screws in the airbox by the rear handle. Then with some gentle praying the black top will separate from the yellow handle.

To remove the yellow bottom half remove the carb. Then the lower handle brace. Remover the oil tank cover and there will be one screw going through the top of the oil tank into the fuel tank. Remove the front handle bar. Remove the starter cover so you can disconnect the kill switch wire. All that's left is to remove the three screws in the carb box floor. Two long ones where the carb was bolted down and one under the throttle rod.

If you have access to a blasting cabinet, it will clean that corrosion right off. If you find any through holes you can then put some tape on the outside and patch from the inside with jb weld.

Learned that trick from @heimannm and it works pretty well too!

On the tank removal, its pretty easy.
One slotted screw just in front of the gas cap. Then remove the two in the edge of the air filter box area.
There should be a cork gasket that seals the tank itself, with some rubber material(thats probably hard or melted from age) around the filter area part.
I'm not home, or id show you what it should look like.
Theres also an aluminum spacer between the tank top and bottom.
Sometimes a few raps with a hammer on an impact screwdriver helps if the tank screw is crusty.
Dont force it. Just spray it with your favorite penetrant before and during.
There are some nice rubber tank gaskets available to replace the original cork tank gasket.
I'll let those that know better than i recommend those.

I call it the lower handle brace but I did forget to add about the rubber tank gasket. Those things rock!

Just check eBay for " McCulloch 10-10 tank gasket"

@Steve & @Dream - perfect, thank you both for writing all that out for me! I wish I had access to a blasting cabinet. I actually bought this large air compressor to do a dyi baking soda blaster for a motocross case I cleaned up back in 2012...no cabinet just a huge mess but it worked, lol. I'm going to look into getting an actual cabinet.

Another question. What spray paint is similar to this mcculloch black paint? It almost looks like a wrinkle paint. I accidentally blew off most of it on the air filter top cover.
