Every model has it parts shortage, in time. I have some beloved models of almost everything… mac 125 and kart 101 junk. Trx250r and cr500 parts along with cr250 stuff, the demand is outreaching supply…sounds familiar, but on basic items…lol
We are *b-wording about 20-40+ years old parts, 125 parts have been drying up for a while, 82cc Mac’s and now 10-10…makes sense

It only took 4 years but I finally got my PM6 running! It acts like it has an air leak and it changes rpm when I tilt it from side to side so I think it needs crank seals, unfortunately. But, at least I know it runs and my recoil reinforcement works!

Ya, that’s the issue with my sp80/81, the new seals feel tight, so hopefully that works, it wouldn’t hold a tune, and has a great looking piston/cylinder. The small saws are a love affair!

Brainstorm or dumb a-- attack one or the other .Anyhow the bore on a 10-10 is 1.75 " which is 44.5 mm .Caber makes 44.7 mm rings by 1.2 mm thick .So you'd only need to file .2 mm off the ends unless the rings are too thick .I have no idea how thick the OEM is ,I'd have to find an old piston and mic one . That's not a question of if but rather where they might be at .

More on piston rings so another story .My first motor cycle was a 1950 Indian Warrior .498 CC verticle twin engine .I managed to run it out of oil and smoked the engine .I managed to save it by finding rings that would fit but needed ran through a surface grinder to thin them a tad bit, it worked .Again saying nothing is impossible .

Mine is currently sitting in a box torn down for the same reason.
Probably will stay there til this fall, when I "might" have some time.

One good thing about McCulloch 's is the parts for the most part are SAE sized ..Some place I have, listed by size both Hastings and Perfect Circle piston rings which the numbers probably are still good .Another time my old departed buddy Kent was restoring a 4 cylinder 1937 Waukesha engine .I got him the rings because the exact same size was used on the Ford 4 cylinder HSC engine circa mid 90's .You just have to think outside the box every so often .

I'm gonna get in trouble, but that Waukesha motor wouldnt have been for a 1937 Allis Chalmers model B would it?:D
On a related note, I SHOULD have everything I need to put my 7-10A back together.
Well, everything but time.:(

I'm going to be heading down that way this weekend. Is it something that I could transport in my car? Or do I need a U-Haul?

It was AC orange but it was a power unit not a tractor engine .BTW I have a 1938 B I rebuilt the engine when I was 16 years ,58 years ago .
38 was the first year they built their own motors for the B and RC. I think that one was 116 ci?
Not sure on the Wauk, but a 37 B with one in it and a brass data tag is worth a bit these days.
Have a kerosene(distillate/tractor fuel)
power unit engine(with hood) in my 46 C.
Back on track, wheres the best place to get a set of rings for a 57 CC 1010 Super?

Ira,you say you paid $250-$300 for an engine you got in the Pa.mountains? That's outrageous! I bought a 327 from a local scrapyard when I was 19 for $85,it came out of a '68 Impala.Studerbaker cars were plentiful in a local paper & I'm happy to say I actually drove one.It was a standard shift on the column.

I know right!, haha
I was up near Lockhaven PA cruising around one day and saw a field of old cars and stopped to talk to the owner. The guy turned out to be Patton's mechanic during the African theater of WW2 ! He was mean as cat piss but had some super rare stuff cheap!

In this search for Mac parts you might try Randy's engine repair near Mowerystown Ohio .Just another option .I've got some parts some time ago including a clutch segment for the avatar saw ,Homelite 2100S which is rather rare .If I recall the shop or at least the sales portion is done by Randy Duncan and his wife Crystal . A Google search will find it .

I presume you mean 10-10S? If you know that it uses 92517 I have you covered. PM for details.

Mark
I'm out of town til Friday. When I get back I'll measure the thickness etc. I believe it has the locating pin.

I thought I would post this here before putting it up for sale. I've got a good PM700 I am wanting to give a new home. I just got it fixed up and have cut with it a little the last 2 weeks. I'm thinning out the amount of stuff I have and so this one needs to go. If anyone is interested then give me a shout. I do have one or two bars for it that I would consider parting with as well. This also doesn't have a chainbrake but I do have most of the components on hand if a person wants that.

....yes my bench is a disaster I know.

After I made the post about the shortage of 10-10 rings that got a lot of folks worked up a bit,I thought about Caber. Those rings you mentioned Al,that were .2 m,m over wouldn't take much to remove, probably could do it with emery cloth.

My next Mac project is to find out what's going on with my Super 10-10 exhaust. It'll run fine, then sound like it's running open headers, then back to normal again. It's gotta be a gasket,or loose muffler bolts,or both. The automatic oiler quit working right after I got it,so that needs to be looked at too.
