I went for a four mile run earlier this week. Doc says I messed up one of my metatarsals. Told me to rest but I'm having a hard time staying still. I've got alot of personal things I want to get done before I leave at end of month for work.

My old man ran the 10-10s today he's tickled to death. Only have a few issues I'm not happy with. Recoil is sluggish, the pressed on stud for brake is loose, and the oil tank seal needs addressing. Edit: needs a good gas cap and I suspect the throttle linkage isn't the right one. But it does function.

If the spark plug lead or the boot are compromised they will do more than tickle you.

eBay seller Gotfishon has a nice replacement gasket for the oil tank, fairly thick material that seems to seal better that the original thin paper gaskets.

I was just going to spray it down with carb cleaner and hit it with the copper spray .

Just a guess but the plastic sleeve that the starter shaft rides in has a tiny notch in the flange,(easy to miss) and if misaligned it'll be sluggish or you could have debris in the spring which is easy to spray out with the spring cover removed.
The flag stud is pressed in, I think so it might need some locktight sleeve retainer on it or bushed with some aluminum foil.

Very cool! Is it the cork gasket or the duckbill valve leaking? I usually make my own gasket...just trace out the existing one. They have gasket material at any auto parts store.

I am working on getting some saws cleaned up to move over to the museum. Someone gave me this 300 a couple of years ago and I finally got tired of having in underfoot. I did have to repaint the top cover and the slash on the bar, everything else is original.

I was looking in my little garage for a missing CP70 and found these.

I will set one up with the cold weather kit (AF cover and muffler shroud) so I have a conventional and a cold weather machine in the museum.

I also pulled this Super 797 out to get it cleaned up and ready to go to the museum. It had been setting with fuel in it for a few years, started up and ran just as it should. I dumped the fuel and ran it dry, don't want the display area to smell like chainsaws.

Some helpful advice from a coworker who saw me pouring B/C oil in a saw told me that oil could soak into my skin and possibly contaminate my blood?
I promptly informed them that if that was the case I would most consist of transmission fuild and bar oil.
Fyi YOU probably smell like a chainsaw.

I've been tinkering on the x-mas 1x0 series saws. I've got the 160S to start and run fairly good, however the threads in the head for the muffler are nearly stripped on both sides and will not tighten up. There isn't much room between the thread holes and the ports.

What has had the best chance of being a long term fix, from experience of course, hell-coils or an insert. the threads needed are just less than 0.390" deep.
And just to verify what thread pitch are these. They seem to be metric.

If you are able to drill and tap.

I clean the hole up well leaving the remnants of the damaged threads in the hole and fill it using aluminum brazing rod. It's easy to find.
Get as much in as possible as it will the molten metal will shrink when it solidifies. stick the rod in the hole while the material is molten and give it a stir as there will be a gas pocket under the metal.

Mark where you want to drill using the muffler as a template and tap the holes.

The material is at least as hard as what AL alloy the cylinders are.

You may need MAP gas as the cylinder is a large heat sink.

Looking at the IPL, I see there are both inch and metric fasteners on a 160S

All but one of the Mac recoils I’ve run into are sluggish, you can either disassemble them and clean them or you can bring a can of PB blaster with you every time you go to start them. I usually do the blaster trick until they hit my bench for a different reason. Chainsawr.com might have a gas cap and throttle linkage for you, but if not eBay will probably have both.

The cap is currently unobtainium for nos.
Linkage my dad said he was fine with.

The starter I haven't gone into yet. But my 700s is way smoother.

Red homelite cap fits and seals well with a good cap gasket, they're available new or in scrap yards near you.

You will most likely need to replace the duckbill valve in the homelite cap, easy to do. I have a youtube video on it along with the Mac caps.

Got my first 10-10 ported. Pulled the transfers down into the crank case and added a few degrees to the exhaust timing. Also made the ports bell shaped so they open a bit more on the outside. It's my first 10-10 so hopefully it works.
