Yeah, I had minimal success drilling them myself.

Alot of people drill them for the duck bill, I have succeeded in popping the center out of one steel tube , but I destroyed 2 in the process.
I'm wondering if you could clamp the cap between 2 pieces of flat steel and take a slide hammer to pop out the center.
My 1010S has the steel one.
PM700 has what appears to ne brass with a keeper chain.

PM700 will be a cinch. The hole in the center is really small so I'm not sure that a slide hammer will work. I thought about a quick heat with map gas but not sure the plastic would survive...

I don't think heat would be a good idea, the steel tube is actually a blank bolt thing cast into the cap . The head is even a hex that is in the top of the cap so heat would transfer all through the cap.
Now if you put a wood screw in the insert hole and used a slide on it the inseet may come out but the screw usually strips.

Ok Al, where is the other 1.5k? :D This is bone stock with muffler baffle in place. I got it as lean as it will go with a hint of 4 stroking.

@Al Smith

How would I know ,it's your saw .Keep in mind my 6-10 has been worked over about as much as could be with this design .Timing has been advanced no baffle in the muffler ,exhaust port treatment and a carb made from parts from two or three I cobbled together .The choke area is much larger than the throttle bore in effect acting like a ram tube at higher RPM's .That pot licker will blow your ear drums out but cuts about as well as well tuned Husky 372 .If I'm not mistaken using Kevins tach it dead sticked at around 15.6 .I don't own a tach that will go that fast .
I have not had that thing started in a long while either .I just amused my self running that loud mouth thing at GTG's and watching the surprised looks on peoples faces as it screamed away .That thing will make dogs howl :applaudit:

I can elaborate on that old saw that I became about as familiar with as I was the innards of a few old girl friends in my youth .I'll stop right there before it's TMI .
I bought it from a guy on Flea bay who used the seller name of "Puget Waters Sound " .The danged crank had a broken out key way .He sent me another which then went bad also .I think on the third try I used the flywheel and crankshaft from a right hand start 10-10 .Then the carb which I think is Walbro the choke butter fly is held in with a brass screw that has been peened to it doesn't unscrew. In the assembly of my Rube Goldberg carb I neglected to peen it and it unscrewed and swallowed the screw which hung it in the transfer .All was not lost. It put a little ding in the piston which was fixed with a file and as of yet had no more problems with it but keeping in mind it's not some thing I use daily .Shelf queen more or less .All dressed up going no where .

I like that idea.

According to pics, my PM6 has a formerly chainbrake-equipped cover. I'll go and take a peek at it and see if there's a p/n cast in to it.

I just took a look at it, no p/n. I even pulled the tin shield off but there weren't any visible numbers. If you have a non-brake outfitted cover and want one that you can add the missing brake parts on to, I'd be happy to trade.

Thank you. I just may do that if I can't find a complete assembly.
