I've had to make brass bushings for several saws over the years .I might also note a right hand start 10 series Mac is the most difficult recoil starter ever made to reassemble .You about need three hands .

Maybe one day I'll own a right hand start yellow saw. Always thought they were the coolest Mcculloch's.

And mini macs suck too Al. We know.

The rhs starters are no more difficult than a starter rebuild on a stihl or husqvarna.

Evidently you know a trick about them which I do not then .That said why they ever thought the recoil should be on the right side remains a mystery ?
You have to stuff the spring in, then some how wind the string on the drum and stuff it through the hole .All the while holding enough pressure on it then comes the cover with the retaining clip and keep every thing from flying apart like a dollar watch .I'd sooner do 10 Stihl starters rather than one of these any day .

My first Mac was a 10-10 with a sprung starter. Came with two others with sprung starters from a a guy who said if I could get one running for him I could have the other two. Once I figured out I was winding the spring backassward I had two running 10-10's in no time..., and one that would eventually become one. Still have both and that original 10-10A is one of my favorite Macs.

All this talk about recoil springs reminds me.
I used to do small engine repairs years ago.
People would bring in recoil starters for Briggs and Stratton ratchet-style recoils. They would try to cram it all in there and end up getting fed up.
Those were the easiest to do. You just cut the band and let the new spring relax on the floor for a bit, then poke the pulley end through the hole in the blower housing where the tab hooks, hook it to the pulley, bend the retainer tabs over, and just use the pulley to wind the spring up. Takes about 10 minutes.:)

Those ratchet starters on older machines had a tendency to freeze the bearing balls especially if they were out on the elements .

Want to see something cool folks? New old stock never fueled SP125c. If I'm lying I'm dying. Got a little bit of shelf rash but otherwise super nice!

McCulloch couldn't seem to settle on one color scheme for many of their saws.

McCulloch SP125C Twins.JPG

I had another one (early with the sleeve) that was all yellow.

I reported on a tragedy on Another Site...I knocked my BP-1 off the shelf with my trolley hoist this week and smashed the fuel tank, destroyed the fuel cap, and bent the handle.

May be able to bend the tank and have it welded. But the fuel cap would be a hunt.

I have been contacted by a member/friend who has a spare tank and fuel cap. We just need to sort out the details on getting the parts from there to here. That will allow me to put together a shelf saw that looks complete and correct since the parts donor in this case is quite stuck.
