More on this model 73 that came over on the Mayflower .From the McBob CD .According to what I can glean it's the same pistons as a model 77 .Two pistons should fit .A three ring #28540 and a two ring 28885 .Two pins #28744 and 28744A . I should think either would work .That's about all I know except my uncle had one of these things and it weighed a ton to a 16 year old .Even as a 30 year old it was heavy .
I'll have to this about Robert , RIP he was a pain in the azz but he certainly complied a bunch of info on Mac stuff .I once talked to him on Skpe and trying to understand that Aussie accent was a real challenge to a midwestern red neck .

I'm wondering if my original Mac documentation compilation is from the McBob CD. Got it from an old AS member on a thumb drive years ago. Only about 8GB originally and a total mess of disorganized files and folders. I've spent hours going through it attempting to sort it all out, but it's still a work in progress. On the other hand, if it's not the McBob CD, I'd be forever grateful for a copy if someone would be kind enough to make it available (in one form or another).

Bob's CD is fairly well organized .When he was doing it fact I had some info which he did not which I sent to him .He spent a long time doing that I must say .How to compile some thing like that is way above my level of knowledge .I'm a wrench turner not a computer genus .That said if somebody gets in a bind I'm more than happy to look up what from I might have .

Aside from my own occasional needs and enjoying the research, that's why I do it.

Thoughts on Pro Mac 555? Parts compatibility to SP81?
Worth the hassle?

Sry, wrongly asked.
I meant to ask, are any parts compatible with sp81, as that only what still have heh.
Handles, covers and such.

Only compatibility is the oil tank cover and the sparkplug.

There are quite a few interchangeable parts between the two simply by virtue of both being 10 series saws. The main difference is the a/v aspect of the SP81.

What the cylinder chrome ? That was before they used hard nickel alloy IE Nikasil . It will be okay unless you get stingy with the mix oil or lean it out too much .Even cast iron will foul on a lean run .

Thanks for that info Al that is some handy stuff. That will give me a wider range of searching options anyways. Got in contact with Mike Acres and he didn't have anything either. He said my best bet would be tracking down a parts saw and I very much agree with that. Tried Bryce Stott today and left a message. Will try Randy Duncan tomorrow and start putting out some feelers locally.
Mark thanks! I'll do some looking and get back to ya in a week or two. I'm going to do a full restoration on this and want to do it right so I'm willing to be patient. For sh!ts and giggles I decided to contact Wiseco for a price quote on custom pistons. They quoted me 2,200 to 2,500 for a minimum 12 unit order. I laughed after hanging up the phone.

I wouldn't go hog wild on it .The whole damned saw isn't worth 200 bucks IMO ..Keep your cool somebody will post the entire thing on e-bay for some outlandish price and you might pick it up for next to nothing .
Here's the way I look at it. If somebody tries to sell a saw that doesn't work it means they have no idea how to repair it and my time is worth something . The most expensive saw I ever bought was one of the Partner p-100's and I bought it from E-bay because I didn't trust the person who had it on one of the forums .Even with all the stuff and time I put into to it still is lower in price than they usually go for .So before it was over a had two of them by buying parts saws . That's kind of the fun in restoration except you end up with saws up to your hip pockets .

Kevin - post up some photos of what you have and how it does not fit. I will compare your photos with some I have uncovered in the move.

northwest - I am pretty sure I have a 73 parts saw in the attic but I have no idea what the piston may look like. It could be a few weeks before I can get to it to know for sure. Check back with me from time to time if you can't find one elsewhere.

Mark
Mark, the one I got is the square faced one for PM700, 7-10, etc. M&D had it listed a s a superceded part number with no photo. Ebay seller only had one photo that didn't show the face. My fault, I did not give it due diligence.

So I got some parts in for the RHS 1-10.
Thanks again @Steve !
Need a little help with the bushing that goes in the recoil pulley, and maybe what is supposed to hold all of that together. First RHS.0205212137a.jpg
