lehmen les - it look to be a 1-71 or something in that family. Not a gear drive and no automatic oil pump.

The saw I posted is in fact a 660, like a Super 250 with the compact gearbox.

Someone had fit it with a Tillotson HL carburetor and fashioned the rods so that when you depress the choke the throttle opens about 1/3 of the way.

It still had the air box grommet from the MAC carburetor so I replaced that with one suited to the Tillotson.

Ok got tied up in a couple conversations sorry. Well saw would have been worth getting I suppose if someone hadn’t already spoken for it. Could have gotten it and a vary rough pioneer 620 for 60$ .

Oh yeah, for that price I wouldn't have questioned it. I paid almost that much plus shipping for a 1-70 alone.

I have 4 old Macs total now. A 1-40,1-41,1-61 and a Mac 15. All nice shape and I’m sure the all of them will run minus the 1-61 is locked up from rust so it’s soaking. If it won’t free up then it will make a good parts saw to sell I guess. Not that any of these saws are all that desirable.

It may take time, but it will. Can add a part acetone to it also. Makes it really wick in it seems.

If that old Mac is stuck with the piston above the exhaust port you could always shake it loose with a grease gun .That trick is as old as dirt .

Just started to soak it first with penetrating oil then started to spray the 50/50 atf and kerosene mix in spark plug hole out of a spray bottle. Probably not the end of the world if it never runs again because I’m sure it’s slow as heck and I won’t run much of any

I stand corrected and would agree after digging up my only 1-70 series IPL and looking more closely.

It won't be slow like a snail but it should have a lot of grunt . Probably help the speed with a good sharp chisel
chain instead of likely that old chipper chain .If it is an 1-70 that's 87 cc and IMO the best of the reed valve engines .I have several of the 5.3 cubic inch saws .I've only had the tach on one and it was around 9.000 RPMS which isn't all that slow if you think about it .It's worth saving if you can .

Got the mac d 44 out yesterday. Ran like crap. Put a carb kit in it last year and ran good, but was running fuel out the carb yesterday. Diaphram must have went stiff. Will have to see if it sofened up after getting some fuel through it. I am finding that style carb is a pain in the @$$ if they sit. Maybe i should leave some fuel in it rather then run dry like i do with any other saw that is gonna sit?

I'm not certain but I think the 44 has a Mac flat back which is a pain in the rear .Even with a Tilley HL with a hold down choke and a right hand start they are a pain to even get started .I've got a super 44 A I jamb the choke down with a little screw driver to start it

Could always use some of they way overpriced canned gas in it for storage. That’s what I’ve been doing as of late for the saws I don’t use often. If you need heavier than 40:1 just buy the 4cycle stuff and mix you oil choice in. I don’t like letting them sit dry personally

I think it had been about two years since I ran one of my Stihl MS 200 T's .Yesterday I just dumped the old gas and gave it a prime .It just puffed a little smoke and cleared right up .Cut just fine . I don't run them dry .Every so often though I do rebuild a carb which is not a big deal .

The D-44 would have had a Tillotson HL from the factory. Some of the earlier saws (i.e. D-30, D-36, 1-40, 1-50) would have had an earlier version of the Tillotson which had very different diaphragms.

From the best I can determine, the Walbro MAC carburetors (flatback) didn't appear until 1960 or 1961.

That canned fuel is 10 bucks plus tax here. Have too many saws and would cost a fortune lol.

I did run a tank of trufuel through my 038 befor i put it away the one time and it didnt seem to help it. I had to clean the carb the next year.
