I came across Oregon on highway 126 this time so I could stop in Prineville and see the monument to the fire fighters. I read the book I thought was "Smoke Jumpers" but may actually have been "Fire on the Mountain" that told the story of 14 fire fighters who lost their lives battling a fire in Colorado in 1994. 9 of the 14 were from at team of hot shots from Prineville, OR.

I have one like that but no mint bars. I also have a very nice 10-10s and a pro mac 10-10 , my S needs a green oiler button to be correct though. View attachment 245225 View attachment 245226

Chief, that is exactly how I remember it.
Unfortunately, it doesnt look like that anymore. Got a couple of pics today. Wiped it off a bit. The "special edition" tag must have let go. Theres only the bottom right corner left, and no red that I can see.
Even the lower decal is rolled up. Cant even see the 1010S on it anymore. It still responds when its called to action, so its still just as McCulloch as it always was.

This is the one that started it all for me. I remember this one from childhood. This was my grandfather's. He bought it to replace the D30 that had replaced the misery whip. I wish I still had that D30, though they retired it by the time I was old enough to help with firewood duties. This 1010S cut wood to keep 3 families warm. Approximately 12 cords a winter. It PROBABLY will still start. Dad drained the fuel and ran it dry before he stored it. Still has the kill switch wire hanging out from where the thumb switch broke.

They do get a few battle scars if you use them ,can't be helped .Be of good cheer,it's a McCulloch and therefore pretty hard to kill .A little nip and tuck every so often is all it takes and don't be stingy with the oil in the gasoline .

My favorite saw right now is the 7-10A I got out of a junk pile. Its definitely got battle scars, but still runs great.

Here's the story .My wife's nephew needed a dependable saw ,medium size inexpensive .I think it might have been 60 bucks including the shipping.no spark
I got an entire coil ignition for a 10-10 from e-bay .rebuilt the carb ,new 20" chain loop .
Now all these guys ,his buddies had like 029 Stihl's and what ever sized Husqvarnas .They could not believe this old timer out cut them all .I only kept it for a short time before I passed it on .

I've got the bones of an early 850 I robbed the engine from and almost enough bones of a 805 engine to build another 81 cc saw .Needs a piston which I'm not certain if it's a ,b or c size .I know from past experiences probably when I least expect it one will pop up ,fall out of the sky or something .I for one don't get all excited about this stuff as in time it usually all works out .

The whole 800 project started out with me finding an nos p/c kit and looking for a saw to build. I bought the saw afterwards and the p.o. thought it was good but after I found the toasted piston he sent me another no charge , which is very honest ( a rare treat these days) . So the tear down and assembly is going that direction first . As back up I still have the nos kit.20200427_153412.jpg 20200427_204152.jpg

The famous "eye brow " exhaust port I see .The design idea is often a well debated subject as is the actual purpose .--I'll just keep my yap shut or rather my typing finger--one .

Stripping down two of my donor saws this afternoon.
The first one says its a PM700 on the filter cover, but it has model #60011602. Cant find that in the model number cross reference, but the one I have is from 1977. This saw may be newer. Anyone know?
The other saw that didnt have a filter cover is a 700. Model #600061D.

Heres what the last 700 I just took apart looked like. No air filter present at all. Rings are completely gone. Piston and cylinder dont look terrible, in spite of all the crud it ate. 0617201754_HDR.jpg 0617201813.jpg 0617201813a.jpg 0617201857.jpg 0617201857a.jpg
