Newb question for the experts.

If someone wanted a kart saw chassis, what models other than SP/CP125 are viable?

Sent from my MX2020 Secure Satellite Uplink.
200 - 660 front tanks and 640 - 895 non AV big frames. depending on whether you want a gear or direct drive. Possibly the 1-41 to 1-86 series as well. some require more work than others.

Thanks. I see the 700 800 and 850 more often than the SP125s so figured I would see if they were viable. 650s too.

I appreciate the response. If I do this, I would probably use a US 820 for schlitz n giggles.

My bright idea on that is a Mac 101 using a 250 chassis .Maybe a good project but in reality it would be about the same as taking a flat head Ford V8 and trying to out run a 350 Chevy .Nothing is impossible but it does pose some challenges.

I am not looking to out run anything. My goal would just have a cool hotrod saw. Required to run but just a fun toy. Like Leno's garage. LoL

Getting a 125 chassis with a bad engine would be your best bet. A bolt on fit others than drilling the bottom of the 101 block for the oil pump rod, and even that is quite easy.

If you really want to take advantage of the kart engine you need a different intake and those are hard to fit under the hood. I saw and ran one that had a sloper intake and BDC carburetor under the AF cover, fuel tank had to be modified but it runs very, very well. Saw started life as a 790 I believe.

There is likely more room under the hood of a 790 style saw then a 125, for such endevours.

I've got one kind of on the back burner at the moment .A super 44 that Dan Henry sent me .It's got the bones but it will take some doing to get it up to snuff .Just a big kids toy more or less .

Geezzzz, Where are all you Mac guys, Sleepin. Time to wake up.
Here is a saw i just got. Been looking for a good one for some time.
This one came as you see it. With the 8.5 foot bar and 3/4 chain.
Has great compression so shouldn't take much to be a runner.
Need some parts for the oiler, a muffler and a spark plug cover.

You use the tape measure to place the sawhorse? There is a 755 according to the ad on CL near here.

I got in on probably the last of the gear drives in the early 60's as a teen ager .Most had 48 or 60 inch bars .They were not as slow as what you might think .Pot lickers were heavy though and loud .

Thanks aj, That mac is either a 12-25 or early 5-49. The later 5-49's
had a different handle bar that was carried onto the 7-55.

Large 3002 mount 088 & 090 Stihl's work on the old Macs with Cannon spacer washers and re-drilling the oil and adjuster holes. I have done this several times.

FWIW I have a 36" Stihl mount,Windser 36" with spacers that fits both a 125 Mac plus a 2100 Homelite .With a standard driver count it will fit the Macs using a 7 tooth .404 rim ,8 pin it's a little too short. Homelite being slightly different it fits the 8 pin.

If you care to see what it looks like go to Mike Acres site and look up either 2100 Homey or 125 Mac .That same bar is shown on both my saws .
