Picked up a PM850 and two 35's today from Randy (Mastermind) All of these saws run. The 35 has the 1/2 bar and chain. I was shocked how great the 850 runs.

The 33/35/39 series saws are pretty unusual in appearance but seem to be incredibly reliable starting saws. Once you learn a few simple tricks they are not that bad to work on.

A good 850 is indeed an impressive saw. Any of the 82 cc McCulloch saws are pretty snappy for that matter. The later PM800/805/8200 are much more quiet but not as much fun to run. The DE80 is a red headed step child but in good condition can hang with any of the 82 cc models.

My current 82 cc favorite is an SP81 with a NOS cylinder and piston that is just starting to break in. You must be serious when it comes time to start it.

IMO for what it's worth the later 82 cc models with eye brow ports and that quieter exhausts were not the runners the earlier models are .Being a bottom exit exhaust they used that muffler and screen affair which put too many bends and too much restriction on the system.If you want one to run very well get the muffler with the curvature in the bottom and the large cover .If you don't mind the noise remove the baffles .If you do mind the noise leave them in .Either one is an improvement over that wire basket thing .

A good running Mac 82 cc will run heads up with a Husqvarna 281 .I have both,I know for a fact .

Randy had done a muffler mod on this saw. Its loud but not ear torturing loud. Seems to be a strong runner. Ill have to put it in some good size hardwoods to see it full potential.

I pulled the baffles out of my poulan 306a and it hurts lol.

My SP81 with the cylinder and piston topped the two other 850's and the Husky 562XPW at the recent PNW GTG. Of course I had a little displacement advantage over the Husky. I have the stock muffler with baffle on the SP81 and you can hear it run.

A little note on the SP 81 I have.Flea bay find,PNW,cheap . Something was wrong with it,what I can't remember but I fixed it,Super compression for some reason .
I flooded that damned thing,lost my patience and drop started it .The decomp closed and walked the rope ,nearly got me .Never again have I made that mistake again. That one gets started on the ground.

I have another one almost just as nice. I found an original operation and service manual for it dated 1957 on ebay

I'm starting to get quite a few of the 10 series variants now . Which carb kit would I need for a super pro 70 and does anyone know who sells them?

Depends on the carb,the"book" shows two .Looks like a Tilley HS or a Walbro sdc but I can't be certain.

Most small engine shops or parts suppliers sell the kits.

If it's a Walbro SDC you want a K10-SDC kit

If it's a Tillotson HS you want a RK-23HS kit

I have perhaps 50 different 10 Series saws and as I recall, only two or three have Tillotson carburetors. For the SP70 I would be 99% sure it has a Walbro SDC.

Here's what I am working on this week.



In the mix are a Mini Mac 6 (complete), Mini Mac 1 (less common), Mini Mac 25, Mini Mac 110, Mini Mac 140 AS (Auto Sharp), and a couple of SP510's. I will have to search around and see what other Mini Mac's I have ready to go. They made a lot of variations over the years, some have chrome plated bores and plain pistons, some have plain bores and chrome plated pistons, open port and closed port, bearings in the piston or bearing in the rod, etc. etc..

Thanks for the replies , a mcculloch fan has just listed 5 more 10 series on the local auction site. That's the mrs birthday present sorted, she's going to be stoked.

Found these on ebay and couldn't pass them up. It was advertised as a service manual so it was a great suprise to find the IPL tucked inside. Both dated January 1957
