I often wondered if this flea bay seller was associated with "Just David " who hawked Mac PM 610's for 400 bucks a pop .I never bothered with either one of them .

LOL I just don't put the value on some of this stuff as many do .Some act like finding a ragged out old McCulloch is like finding a mint 1938 Harley model El or something .Fact I some times wonder if some of these e-bay sellers actually sell anything with a price tag like that or if it's just to chum the waters .I'm thinking it's more for the chum than the catch .

Now then this guy elaborated about a steel lined bore .I'm not so certain about that for several reasons .Firstly were it steel it would likely be 4130 which is used for aircraft cylinders and isn't the easiest to machine finish .Grade 50 grey cast or nodular cast iron would be my guess .Grade 50 would machine smooth as silk ,nodular is tougher and stronger .For those who don't know modern aluminum block automotive engines use a form of nodular iron for the die cast in place cylinder liners .

Very true. Example, the 790 Gear Drive that has been on and off ebay for the past month. Started at $299, a lot of bidding, then it disappeared. A week later an ad appeared, same saw, same photo, for $999. Then it disappeared. Last week it showed up again, can't recall the starting bid, think it was around $399 or so. I watched it for a few days then lost interest.

I have a 795L and a 795, a 125 and several of the 1-41 and 250 series. No way would I pay over $500 for a big Mac. Money is better spent on big old Stihls.

While I agree with both of you on the craziness of eBay and and some of the shady behavior of sellers. The same can be said for the 090, the production run was really long and are plentiful in good condition! Sellers started asking crazy money for them years ago and that as set the market at a higher value. On eBay it probably 12-1 on 009 vs sp125’s and when you consider the short production run of the 797 it surprises me that they don’t go for more than the 125. In the end it’s demand that sets the price, at what price would either of you part with your 125’s ?Al you say you done put the value on these as other do, what would you sell your 125’s for? That becomes the market, the market isn’t flooded with 125’s, there is one for sale on eBay, so the price can go up, if you want an 090 you have choices and a wide range of prices! 3k is an insane number for a cp125 that isn’t in great condition or even all original, but until people start letting go of their 125’s the average price will keep going up! I am not going to pay big money for a 125 797 or 090 but that’s because I already have them, and so do you guys, others aren’t as luck, to have picked them up years ago, I know I am not letting any of mine go for peanuts, they just aren’t that easy to replace as they used to be!

Selling price is dictated by a person that wants to sell and a person that wants to buy.

Yea, if I won the lottery I would build my collection at any price.

However, most of us have to budget for toys!

I agree completely with your statement.

I once saw a 797 on sale from 3 or 4 sellers after the auction was called prior to end time for .I asked what was the minimum bid which the last seller responded they never set one .All 3 or 4 used the same picture on the sale .I knew right then it was a hoax .The exact same thing happened with a Mac 1000 . It's just a game with some of them .Ole Rockcrusher knows only an idiot would pony up that much moolla for a 125 even if the dang thing was factory perfect let alone a ragged out door stop .On the other hand PT Barnum said a sucker is born every minute .

Here's another thing .This Rockcrusher personality is not the only source of new old stock McCulloch parts but most people don't know that .Good ole Bryce in Saint Marys Washington most likely has as much and sells them for a reasonable price .He evidently hits the wrong key when he lists the parts because on rare occasion they are listed extremely high .I just assume it be a typo .It happens .

I never put a value on them because I don't want to sell them .To be quite honest that Homelite 2100S in my avatar is more valuable . I don't want to sell that one either .Having said that I don't pay much for them ,never have and never will . If I have to work on them to get them running my time is worth something .Plus if they are not rare or have the ability of being modified I'm not interested in them .As a collector/restorer I'm kind of odd in that I don't think I need 500 saws laying around to trip over .I've got 40-50 and haven't got the time keep them all exercised as it is .I don't need any more .----however if in the remote chance a MC 101 engine that wasn't all beat to hell came up for a reasonable price that might get my attention .:)

Exactly Al, that the reason the pice keeps going up, collector and enthusiasts have snatched up most of them, nobody wants to give them up, the price is going to keep going up until people start unloading them, like the 090, there were some crazy numbers for 090 until there was plenty for sale, now it more normal, still high but not a lot of 3k+ prices

What’s a reasonable price for a 101 in your eyes? They come up all the time
