Thanks for the info Simon. You also need to be aware of 1 of the 2 sorts of clutch drum drive sometimes found on the 42 and 242. Some of the 42/ 242 ( and on some 254 xp saw ) have a drive that only turns the pump when the clutch is engaged ( not constant pumping ) . You will see the same fitment on the 246 and it means finding a near imposable clutch drum to drive the top left worm drive in the picture on Tor's post . You can see the slots for the drive to slot into. There is another sort of plastic worm drive that engages around the shaped needle roller bearing /sprocket stem of the clutch drum ( I think ?) . Pics are the best i can find for now....

The left one is the hard one to find and ones iv found for sale are the ones on the right.
There is a "Oregon Power-mate" drum that can be found if your lucky . Part No 40068.Thanks for the info Simon.
I think there is a few # also.
# 501 63 66 03, came on 242 year 93 week 33 and 34. Later they updated to # 501 63 66 05.
I wonder if there also was another clutch drum, # 501 63 66 04, and if that one was an update for # 501 63 66 02
Nice one Andrew....Thats the other sort i have seen on the early saws ...it fits on saws with the worm drive pushed on the crank and in constant mesh with the oil pump. Notice the end has no lugs to slot into the plastic on the drop in plastic worm. Also Simon , Tor in the past I've put a Oregon 29105 on one of my 42 specials
Wrong drive /worm combo = No oil drive !! so its worth looking to see if there is a pushed on worm on the crank or not . Iv bought saws with the wrong drum fitted many times.Nice one Simon I didn't notice that on the first picture the one I bought was deffentaly the second one
Those are the ones I bought when I stocked up a few clutch drums. There is a "Oregon Power-mate" drum that can be found if your lucky . Part No 40068.

I had it as my own saw for a while...found it when you stood a chance of finding one ! The saw had the best low end as well as top than any other . I find the Gilardoni cylinders on the 42 specials seem to be the strong ones to. It is sold on now ...I made a mistake with the power of "Hind sight "that make sense.
KS also made the piston for 42 Special, used in Gilardoni 241A jug
customer saw or did you sell it Simon?
sometime we sell the wrong saw SimonI had it as my own saw for a while...found it when you stood a chance of finding one ! The saw had the best low end as well as top than any other . Never seen a cat on a Husqvarna myself in the UK Tor...or a green cap saw. At least it looks simple and neat to remove.Nothing has toasted 242's more then their famous Cat muffler, if their top end survived on a long run you toasted top cover, and now and then front handle bar lol
Here is how those cute cat mufflers look:

Husky prepared crankcase for the cat muffler in late 92 or early 93, pretty much when they had two drilled hole in the crankcase.Never seen a cat on a Husqvarna myself in the UK Tor...or a green cap saw. At least it looks simple and neat to remove.
