There is two different oil pumps Chris, the one they used with bronze worm gear and the later as you have. They changed this around 1992. Ain't a big problem as we can dremmel the old oil pump to fit the new style worm pump gear.

Thanks Tor. I took the oil pump off my 242 incomplete saw but it uses the fixed worm style. I see what you mean about grinding out the center of the pump body to fit the newer clutch driven worm gear. I am going to see if I can get another pump before I modify this one.

Plus I think the early grommeted fuel line is still available.
Yes it is. Also, the 246 just takes the standard pig's tail type Husqvarna fuel line.
that is correct Bob, the old grommeted fuel line is still available, at least at the moment.
In the paste Husqvarna have empty alot shelves, sadly alot 242 parts became NLA.
Fuel line, I’m a fan of the pig tail hose.

@Tor R Are the Gilardoni cylinders made of a different type of aluminum? I put this one in the ultrasonic and it looked just like any other old used cylinder going in, but it came out looking pretty much like new! I mean very shiny machined areas and very white casting.

Brand new Meteor cylinder on the left, Gilardoni 241c 44mm on the right.

Can the pig tail type hose be used in any 242/246 Tor, or do some tanks require the molded hose?

Pig tail line can go in any tank as long as the grommet is used. Same on 268's, 630's, 288's, whatever. A better chioce IMO as many of the molded lines are short and hang in the air, or at least start sucking air much sooner. The pig tail line allows the filter to rest on the botom of the tank.

I didn't know there was a Meteor cylinder available for these saws. Which model is it for?

Sorry the Meteor cylinder in the picture is actually for a 288xp - I just used it as an example of "new" and it was handy. I did get a Tecomec 242xp kit a couple weeks ago that looks very nice. I should take a couple photos of it next to the Gilardoni. Thanks for the grommet tip - I will have to get a few to keep on hand.

Haha! Didn't load the pics at home on dial up. The one does look a little bigger than the other!

Just put a tecomec 242 kit on a customer 246. Very nice kit and runs strong.

I've bought two Tecomec 242 top ends, build a saw for my logger buddy 2 years ago. Those kits are really good quality.
It's possible to find nos oem's at ebay, but it goes ruffly 2 years between there comes a kit.

I got a new oil pump for my 246 yesterday so today I started putting everything back together. Everything has been thoroughly cleaned and the oil pump was the only thing holding me back. I thought I had better do a pressure/vacuum test before I got too far into it and lo and behold the pto side seal is leaking. Not real bad, but obviously it isn't going to get better on it's own. So I put everything in a box and the 246 will be a project somewhere down the road.

Not sure if anyone has noticed, but pto side seals for the 242/246 are now available again. I just received 4 of them. It appears the bearings are available as well but since I haven't actually ordered any, I can't say for sure if that is true or not.

Got a couple of these 242 side covers lying around. Practically everything is NLA for these saws and this is one of them. $100 shipped which is where what's left of flag style covers are priced.

Hi Bob. I have a busted side cover on my 1984/85 Husq. 44 that looks sort of similar to these, do you know if they would be interchangeable?

Finally got my 246 all back together. Installed a new oem piston/ring/bearing and a new pto side crank seal (get them while you still can). I painted the clutch cover and I'm waiting on a new decal from Sugar Creek Supply. Did a base gasket delete and ended up with .019 squish. Also rebuilt the HDA98 carb and painted the muffler. I have a guy coming tomorrow to remove a tree in my yard so I will likely give the 246 some work cutting up the large limbs.
