When I changed my muff (pea shooter thread) to a ft, I just left it in place even thou I had to make a spacer.
My reasons were,,,, flywheel blows cool air, I want to make it go where the heat shield was there to do. Not over the muff
:)
Cheers

Ok... so I've read through most of this. Is the consensus not to use a heat shield if using the spacer?

For my last 034 build I used a 036 muffler which needed a spacer
(First spacer I’ve ever needed) and the heat shield wouldn’t fit ?
I use heat shields if they fit. This last one was pieced together and original muffler was rusted out at top lip.

That's been my experience too. Don' know if the heat shields were just for the 036 models and not the 034. Even my Supers don't have them. But spacer is a must if you're putting an 036 style muffler on an 034/034S cylinder.

I guess this is just a plane Jane non decomp 036 cylinder as mentioned earlier in this thread, has the dimple in top. What was odd about the saw is that it has the plastic wrap handle, newer style starter, and was made in USA but has the non-decomp cylinder, tall tank vent, non-compensating carburetor, old style air filter. Also a 034 air filter cover fits it.

Having a look at my 034 saws today, I know the saw in pic #1 is a 46mm cylinder and the saw in pic #4 is a factory 48mm 034 Super... Saws #2 & #3 were badged as just 034 though their cylinders appear to be the 48mm version?.....All four cylinders are KS type.

I didn’t think anything of it except someone swapped the jug, but now maybe not!
