Ahh the goey creosote. One thing I don’t miss about the owb. Part of it was it was slightly oversized, so ended up adding a dump zone. And she liked her wood nice and dry being gasification. Had to be a couple years ahead on wood, which is good practice anyway.

I never have worried the slightest about burning green wood in the boiler.

Adding storage solves the issues you just mentioned
I have 1000 gallons
No creosote problems, boiler is always running wide open at peak efficiency
Storage eliminates needing a dump zone

It's also an antique grinding wheel, I haven't found another one like it on the Internet. This company also makes diamond ones Molemab / I bought 2 used ones, I've been using them for a few years and they have 1.5mm of wear

I do not "prefer" wet wood.
I prefer to cut trees that need removed instead of trees that will be good to burn.

This job was less that 3 hours from start to finish.

Yeah our conventional boiler would do the same just fine. Gasification is a whole new animal. Nothing but problems if your wood isn’t seasoned.

Your wood may be too wet, or you aren't burning it hot enough or with enough air flow if you have a lot of creosote and chimney fires.

That’s all true with conventional stoves. Owb’s are different. If it gets too warm out or you don’t have enough load on them they don’t call for heat so they just kinda sit there and smolder and make a mess. Mine was a bit large and it fought us on slightly warmer days. Plus not realizing how horrible gasification was with green wood. Pre gasification didn’t really care much what you put in them. Once I added a dump zone I’d cool the water enough that it would call for heat even on warmer days and burn a lot cleaner.

That is true. Essentially doing the same thing. In our situation we didn’t really need more hot water. But the block garage with zero insulation the stove sat next to didn’t mind a little heat in it and me neither if I was working in there. So worked out well. There wasn’t a chance in hell that garage was ever going to get too warm lol.

I was able to mulch this last batch of leaves. Enuf so, that the lawnmowers (Lawnboy's) fuels were drained and ran dry.
Nice and cozy till next year.

There are also at least 2, maybe 3 runnable bricktops still hanging out at another location. All of these have minor issues, but any could be put back into service.

It isn’t domestic hot water
The 1000 gallons storage is used to heat the house when the boiler is off.
On a typical-20 C day my boiler runs wide open for about 6 hours once the wood is gone I shut it off till the next day when I get home from work. At -40 C I have to burn about 10 hrs to bring the storage up to 189 F then it’s good till the next day
All we have to burn here is Spruce.
Standing dead comes off the stump at 17% MC

Put up exterior Christmas lights today. I know, to fuggin early but wait too long any we wind up doing it in the snow or with temps in the teens. Which is what happened our first year here, lol

Nice setup you got there. I always wished mine was indoors. Atleast it was in a 3 sided enclosure so it wasn’t too bad during a storm.
