Among many other things, almost finished a sitting bench I'm making from a side slab of wormy Hickory. Repaired the base on my Radial Arm saw to cut (then chisel) the grooves for the feet (also made from half round Hickory).

Most of it is stained with semi transparent stain, but the sitting surface has a base coat of epoxy, and I plan to just leave it like that.

Wish I could get a close up of the worm groves and holes that were under the bark, but I'm just using a cell phone for the pics, but I like how it looks.

That is 1 of 4 piles of milled wood (in the back ground) that I still have to build things with … I have got to get busy! All Oak and Hickory there.

And I have logs I have not milled yet … 3 Black Walnut, Ash, White Oak and several Tulip!!!

I think my eyes are bigger than my stomach!!!

That bench looks like a nice place to sit down and enjoy a beer or two. Looks great man! The stack of lumber behind it caught my attention too. Lots of good projects awaiting you.

Thanks, yea that bench will be going up to my cabin. Got material for about 3 or 4 more just like it (but different wood, Oak instead of Hickory).

It was bright and sunny early this morning, and I checked the weather forecast and it said no rain till Friday, so I called my daughter and invited my two Grandson's over (10 + 12). We planned to work on some chainsaw wood benches, then go shooting bows and arrows at the range. Such were the plans!

We had barely set up shop in the driveway when I heard Thunder in the distance, and saw a large dark cloud approaching. It was the first of 3 T Storms we were to have today, so a lot of the woodworking got postponed or moved inside, and we never did get to the archery range.

We did remove a bad cup from a wide piece of Black Oak. It really does not cup, it forms a V from the center of the tree, so I cut a space 3/4 of the way through with the saw, then glued it, clamped it and screwed it. Worked really well at removing the cup, I'm starting to get good at this!

Then we put legs on another small sitting bench (stained brown), and that one went home with them today. It is also all Black Oak.

Cut couple a loads of this , it's some of the best fire wood in the country but it's bloody heavy and hard even when dry if you chuck a piece in the water it will sink .

Well done mate saws and shottys sounds like a cracker day to me ......
Cheers mate, its usually a high powered rifle that accompanies me out wood cutting (.17rem, 204 or 22/250), i really loved using the shotty today, i grew up using one as a kid and shot a lot of foxes.
I should use it more.

Yeah my favorite varmint rifle was a 243w with 65g vmax at 3750 but I got in to longer range so that was replaced with a 260r and a 7mm mag .
But I will say the best fun guns are a shotty and a 45acp

I've got a 220 Swift, but the most fun I had chuck hunting was with a 30-30 with 110 gr handloads (light). I loaded the 110 gr to shoot in the same place as a 170 gr, no sight adjustment. Almost no recoil, and with open sights it was challenging to get chucks with it … lots of fun.

I thought you guys down under gave up your gun rights … what's the real story???

We never gave up our gun rights, we are just slowly having them stripped away
We lost our semi auto rifles and shotguns, some farmers and pro shooters can still own semi auto but need a genuine reason for ownership.
Magazine capacities are also restricted, no high capacity mags anymore.

Some States are trying to do the same to us here. In NY, some semi rifles need to be registered, and mags are limited to rounds.

In School, (my Grand Kids) prohibited words include "Gun" and "Shoot", what are they going to do next, burn the books!
