Pretty much. Single works better for shaping the wheel the first time.

Interesting. My tooth may be appropriate then. I was going under the assumption that vertical was the desired side plate angle. Mine does slope back away from the tooth point.
Ok, that should be fine then. I had thought you meant it was sloping the other way

You only need an angle finder if you want to copy someone else's angles. Pictures will help. If you can't get them to post I'll send you my number and you can text me.

I went ahead and documented the dress angles I put on the new stone that I tried to copy from Deets picture's.(which I do anyway when I change thing around.)
To me the first cutters he posted were about as close to ideal-(in my mind) as I have seen with the grinder. I know that you have a Simmington, but I would think that provided you have the wheel mounting height, and the stone dress angles should produce a very similar cutter profile.

Like Mike said all you need is an angle finder. They're pretty cheap at Harbor freight. Even cheaper is this app, as you probably have a smart phone. The app is dead nuts accurate as compared to my Wixey angle finder.

First I would recommend you level your grinder as shown:

Then remove the diamond dressers and place angle finder on the top plate diamond dresser swivel as shown below- (approx 12 degrees):

Finally repeat the same procedure for the sideplate dresser as shown below:(approximately 15 degrees)

Now just reinstall your diamond dressers. Dress the stone and try sharpening a cutter.

Hope this helps you.

Neat. My silvey looks similar to yours. I will have to try the hf angle finder.

Mike. This last picture you posted is what i tried with the chain rest. It seemed better with the rest tilted up.

"Chain Rest"?

Are you talking about the grooved piece that the drive links slide in? If so, the tilt doesn't matter because of the arc radius. The only change comes from moving it fore or aft on the arm, or up down vertically. (from the Simington setup video)

I talked to Kelly at Simington. He did tell me the cluster point dressers produce a much nicer finish on the wheel,

He told me just the opposite when I wanted a multi point added to my order a few yrs back.

What model do you have? Mine is an older 450, and has a simple pivot screw for the dresser to rotate around. Apparently, the 451 has some sort of enhanced bearing in the dresser pivot. Lacking that bearing on the older model, he said the cluster was the better choice.... IDK?

I didn't say I agreed with what he told me, that is just what he said at the time. I bought the multi point anyhow.

I have a 451C. It does have bearings on the pivot levers.
