An oil thread w/out inviting me, eh?
I will never run klotts again, carbon and splooge galore..
32-1 no carbon buildup, no spitting goo, no fouled plugs. Dominator or sabre or any full syn that burns clean.
Do you run kendall or quakerstate in yer p/u or mobil 1.
If you run cheap oil in a v8, yer prbly running cheap 2stroke oil also.

I run Mobil 1 in all gas engines and Rotella in diesels. Running Red Armor now, but may try some others.

Not to be rude but most loggers in my area know very little about saws or oil but only that they work and get a job done. Most use the community store no name being the cheapest they can find. Most around here use processors and polesaws. The majority of loggers that still own a saw here will be like 044, 440, 046,460, 660, 066, 288, 181,266, etc. Most of the tree service companies do have new saws from small or big though
same here. you would never see one of them on a forum

No more synthetic for me. After all these threads i decided i was wasting money for the mili second the oil is in the cylinder and crankcase. Castrol 2T mineral oil 40/50:1 depending on how much i spill or runs down the jug. $4.50 a quart.
Funny thing about Castrol. ....they are just a bottling company. ...

I was running Jonsered branded oil 'cause that's what the stealership sold.
Last year bought a 6 pack of Red Armor and it seems to work.
Yesterday mixed 2 1/2 gallons of orange bottle Stihl and poured a gallon into my travel can which had a quart or so of Red Armor mix in it.
91 octane, 50:1 mix for ever and ever, amen.

Here's one to twist up some underwear...
My buddy, 20+ years service tech at a stealership, Yamaha, skidoo/seadoo, polaris,,,factory trained in some areas,,says,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

wait for it,,,,,,

mix your fuel at 50:1 if that's what the factory calls for..oil lubricates, the fuel cools..why would you wanna' run your saw lean or rich from the factory specs?
Do you change the thermostat in your truck to run hotter? Change it to run cooler?

I hate to do this but.......

I generally run Stihl oil in the silver bottle and mix it 50:1. Is this wrong? I read through a lot of the pages of the oil recommendation thread, but I never saw Husky or Stihl oil. I saw read everything from Amsoil to Honda. I also saw ratios from 32:1-50:1.

I run stock saws at home and work. My 440 has a dual port muffler if that matters.

Am I doing something wrong or is there something better?

Is factory oil and factory ratio a bad idea?

Just wanting to prolong the life of my saw the best I can.

Long as you do normal saw tuning and maintenance then stihl ultra 50:1 or red armor 50:1 will do just fine. I've had my 290 for 13 years and it still runs like a top....50:1 all it's life.

We run Extreme mix oil at work at 45/48:1, refill before you're empty. Works good saws last. I've tried many brands at home and come to the conclusion that deposits are you're enemy, I've been sticking with Stihl or Jonsred for about 15 years now and having no problem with either, local shop closing down now so Stihl is probably going to be it from here on. Again that 45/48:1 mix, Hyattsville your can before it's empty ,little extra oil but safer than not enough

Ok I'll throw .02$ in here. I'm new to saws but not to sleds or mx bikes. I ran a 1200cc triple @250hp in one of my sleds for 7 years. Here's my theory on two stroke engine oil: if it's using all of it ritchen it until it's laying around when you tear it down. If it's laying around to where it's causing a mess back it off a bit. This is application specific for sure. On my YZ250, with my fat ass on it in the dunes running a paddle tire it uses every bit of oil I give it at 32:1. When I was riding ramps almost exclusively I'd back it off to around 40:1 to avoid fouling plugs and making too big of mess. Same with the sled: 32:1 because it was always expected to work hard. You'd pull it down for rebuild and find oil laying in the cases. That's when you know it's getting enough.

So apply it to saws. Your milling saw or falling saw likely wants more oil than your firewood saw or limbing saw. Play with it a bit and see. If it's always under full load it's going to use that oil because of higher temps burning it out. For me, mine all get amsoil dominator and ethanol free 91 octane at 40:1.
